Got two questions to those of you who have (or have shot from) a 870P with original ghost rings sights. (these sights: http://www.remingtonle.com/shotguns/870pmax.htm)

Is the front sight Tritium?

Also, looking at the pictures online, it looks like the "ring" that you are looking through is pretty thick. Is it a true GHOST ring sight? Does it create blind spots around the target?

And last but not least, how sturdy are the sights? Usually ghost ring sights have a "guard" that protects the actual sight, this one does not have it.

Thanks in advance!

The Wilson Ghost Rings are great sights, in actual use you should not even notice the ring, your eye should naturally center the front sight-which may or may not be tritium.
You do not use the ghost ring like a peep sight on a rifle, you get your eye right up to it so you hardly notice it(requires a properly fitted stock, particularly if you are going to fire something like 3/3.5" mag loads) and do your thing with the front sight and all will be well in the garden.
The big advantage IMHO is that you do not have to focus on a sight halfway down the barrel AND the front sight. I think they are best used with potent buck loads, and the odd slug load. There are better sights for real precision slug shooting.

I have an 870PMax, an 11-87P with the same ghost ring sights, and a Mossberg 590A1 with the "winged" rear ghost ring.

For the Remingtons: Nope. The front sight is not/does not have tritium.

Although i haven't notice any particular blind spot due to the rear sight's thickness.

The rear sight bolts down very securely. Even then, I try to keep from bumping my sights, both front & rear. Yet, I have bumped my sights, especially when going in & out of the safe, and they have not moved from this inadvertent bumping.
=============
All three of my shotguns have ghost ring sights as well as the ones I use at work (we use the Mossberg 590A1 w/grs @ work). I greatly prefer them to just the bead sight as I shoot a lot slugs in practice. I do wonder, however, just how well a rifle-sighted Remington shoots and holds up to medium-hard use/handling.
