Girl With a Big Gun Videos

I definitely won't let my wife see any of those videos until after she tries my .22 at the range. Otherwise, she'll never try it.

I love the 577 T-rex vids.

While I agree with the basic sentiment in this thread -- bad idea for the cause to do things to scare away newbies, I have to admit, I too found the 577 T-Rex videos hilarious.

Sometimes you just can't gage how how much recoil will be too much for someone. My roommate in grad school was from Kentucky, so I figured he wasn't totally naive about firearms, but when I let him shoot a 6.5mm x 55, which had been my mother-in-laws deer rifle, the recoil had the scope bust him right above the eyebrow needing several stitches :(

It was the only thing I had at the time between .22 and .308, I was trying to let him work up in power.

I think people with video cameras are idiots in general. Look at all of the outlets that prove how stupid these people are.

That being said. The video's are funny to me. I like a) pretty women, b) guns and c) a combination of both. If you can throw a little 12 year old humor in there at the same time then thats just awesome.

I saw one I liked where a girl was firing a .45 for the first time. It was suppressed and she didn't realize she was supposed to be scared of the big gun making the loud noise and she did quite well.

Lets see

Give your GF a gun you know she can't handle : Strike 1
Record & laugh at her when she hurts herself with it: Strike 2
Post the video on youtube: Strike 3
You're OUT!

I've never understood inflicting pain on someone you care about. Letting a small woman shoot a big gun with no training is the same as hitting her with your fist. Only a punk and a coward would do that.

When I was a kid, I had a mean trick exactly like that pulled on me. I was shooting .22 magnums out of a Savage .22 magnum/ 20 gauge with one of my uncles. The gun was wearing a scope.
He sent me down to "check the target" and handed me the gun when I got back, telling me it was my turn to shoot. He'd loaded it with a 20 gauge slug. I got the scope right in my eye socket good and hard.
I didn't cry.
I didn't drop the gun.
I didn't turn and hit him in the head with the stock as hard as I could.
It was difficult though, especially with the way he was laughing at me.
That was nearly 40 years ago, but I remember it and I resent it to this day. He's dead and I inherited the gun. Every time I look at that gun, that incident is the first thing that comes to mind.

I'm not normally prone to outbursts, but if I saw somebody pulling such a "joke" on a woman or kid, I believe I'd have to give him a proper au paire-style shaking.

When a girl tells you that she would like to shoot or if you introduce the idea of shooting to a girl and she is interested...Those kinds of things are very mean and rude to do to a woman. If you are going to go recreational shooting with a woman and expect her to like it, let her try out small or easy shooting caliber guns and ammo. Don't hand her your .30-06 full wooden stock rifle or 12 gauge loaded with 3" magnum shells and let her hurt herself. That shi...stuff angers me as well. I saw one of those videos where a nice little girl shot this huge, short barrel shotgun, gripped her shoulder and walked away crying and the fat slob that told her to shoot was like "I ain't f'ing sorry." D bag.

They represent the bottom 2% of gun owners and IMO those who film and present such videos should be prosecuted for recless endangerment. There is no excuse for unsafe handling of a firearm and certainly not for presenting it as humor.

The only one that's really funny is the one where a bunch of guys are taking turns trying to shoot a .577 rifle.

I'll admit, the one with the firecrackers is amusing too, but it bothers me because what if the gun was loaded?

Leaving aside the pointless cruelty of those stupid videos, they are probably the best argument going for gun control. :( They just persuade non-shooters that most/all firearm owners are irresponsible rednecks.

I have to say the dumb videos.....goofing off, AND setting up unsuspecting novices with heavy recoil shooting....really irks me to no end because the very last thing we need is for some of these videos to used as examples by the anti-gun media. Would'nt suprise me if it happened once already.

I do admit I enjoy the more responsible shooters on you-tube. I mean, where else am I gonna get to see some guys cutting loose with an MG-42!:D

Heck yeah! There is a group of guy who have all authentic german WW2 weapons, they have an MG42, an MP40, and officers uniforms and everything. It's some really cool historical stuff to see. Too bad I can't post a link to it.

Family

I have a cousin whose kids are grown.

I asked her if she'd ever been shooting.

Evidently, just once. Whoever took her thought it would be "funny" to give her something like a .300 Win Mag to "introduce" her to shooting. Figured it would be "funny." Did I mention that?

That was her last time at the range.

I was seriously ticked. I never got time to take her out with a .22 before I left Nevada.

I think black thoughts about the jerk who scared my cousin -- who lives in a community where shooting and hunting are common -- such that she's never been comfortable at the range since.

Jerk.

Yep....there's some serious jerks out there.

I still remember the worst of these...some teenage girl was shooting a shotgun with who I think was her dad or uncle, and some other folks....well she was surprised by the recoil and dropped it.

The jackhole behind the camera noticed her walking around with a disturbed look on her face, but instead of offering words of comfort just tells her she dropped his shotgun....she breaks into tears.

To make it worse, that family member of hers starts throwing bad jokes her way.

That video really irritates me, and really is what makes people think that firearms enthusiasts are all like that, which can't be further from the truth.

+1 on recoil being able to catch someone offguard. A budy of mine was shooting my 30'06 for the first time and either snuggled up too close or didn't hold it tight enough and it cut his nose and eyebrow. He's former military, having used weapons far greater than I'll likely ever even see; go figure. He also had a ND into the ground the day before with a 12 guage...

Its just stupid to allow someone to hurt themself with a gun when it is so easy to show them how to shoot it safely. One of my shooting buddies has a daughter who weighs maybe 60 lbs. and she has no trouble controlling the recoil of his 10mm Glock or her .30-06 deer rifle.

What's your take on these videos? Harmless fun? Or blatant disregard for safety? Personally, they just piss me off.

Yep

Some punk getting his giggles over someone getting (or nearly getting) hurt with a firearm.

Despicable

I had female friends that have shot super mag handguns. The thing to make sure they know how to shoot handguns, and work them up to it over time. Start them off small *22LR* then work them up slowly to something as big as they feel they can handle. Most I know stop at 44mag, some continue on to reach 500 SW mag levels.

I think anyone that hands a new shooter a 500 SW mag the first few times they shoot is crazy!!!

I've never seen one and on purpose I never will.

I don't like watching stupid people do stupid things. I guess that's why I'm not a fan of the Jerry Springer or Oprah shows.:D
