My girlfriend had never fired a gun before this weekend. She visited me this week (spring break) and my friends and I made sure to take her to the range. I went over all the safety rules, manual of arms for each weapon and basics of marksmanship in the apartment. I started her off on my CZ 452 (bolt action .22lr rifle) at 25 yards and she enjoyed it a lot. Her second magazine (5 rds) grouped at about 2" with a flier. After maybe 8 or 9 mags each, we moved the target back to 50 yards. At that distance she was able to keep about 4 of 5 on paper (50 yard smallbore rifle NRA targets).
Then we let her fire the AR carbine (at 100 yds)! After two rounds she turned around and graced me with the biggest smile I have ever seen from her. She then turned back to the rifle and finished the mag... I am so proud! She declined to shoot the Marlin 336 or the Springfield 1903 because she felt they were too loud. And she was jumping at the beginning from the sounds the other shooters on the line were making (there was a 22-250, our rifles, an SKS, AK-47, bolt action .308, and some evil looking belt-fed machine ) After a bit she was flinching much less though.
After a few hours with the rifles we headed over to the handgun range where we each put a few magazines through the 1911. She had fun with it but didn't really care for the recoil, and she couldn't hit anything with it. Who cares though, I'm just glad she liked it!!!
And now some pictures. I only have two because her camera is with her in Ohio now. At the end of the day she told me "I had a lot of fun. I can almost see why you spend so much money on this!" I'm getting through to her!!!
I am so proud! She's a keeper for sure!
