My girlfriend had never fired a gun before this weekend. She visited me this week (spring break) and my friends and I made sure to take her to the range. I went over all the safety rules, manual of arms for each weapon and basics of marksmanship in the apartment. I started her off on my CZ 452 (bolt action .22lr rifle) at 25 yards and she enjoyed it a lot. Her second magazine (5 rds) grouped at about 2" with a flier. After maybe 8 or 9 mags each, we moved the target back to 50 yards. At that distance she was able to keep about 4 of 5 on paper (50 yard smallbore rifle NRA targets).

Then we let her fire the AR carbine (at 100 yds)! After two rounds she turned around and graced me with the biggest smile I have ever seen from her. She then turned back to the rifle and finished the mag... I am so proud! She declined to shoot the Marlin 336 or the Springfield 1903 because she felt they were too loud. And she was jumping at the beginning from the sounds the other shooters on the line were making (there was a 22-250, our rifles, an SKS, AK-47, bolt action .308, and some evil looking belt-fed machine ) After a bit she was flinching much less though.

After a few hours with the rifles we headed over to the handgun range where we each put a few magazines through the 1911. She had fun with it but didn't really care for the recoil, and she couldn't hit anything with it. Who cares though, I'm just glad she liked it!!! :D :D :D

And now some pictures. I only have two because her camera is with her in Ohio now. At the end of the day she told me "I had a lot of fun. I can almost see why you spend so much money on this!" I'm getting through to her!!!

I am so proud! She's a keeper for sure!

The way I got my father into the sport was hand him my Beretta type M -- which he actually kept...:uhoh: so I don't hand guns over so freely anymore....

The New Single Six is a nice shoot but he's clearly moved on to bigger and better things -- such as an AK-47 someone let him try last trip up. My advice? Nice that your girlfriend's so interested now but keep your hands on your guns or they won't be yours much longer...;)

Congratulations to you and your girl friend both!

I have a rifle just like yours, and believe it's an excellent way to introduce new people to shooting. I think it helps that it looks like a real gun, not a toy, and it's surprisingly accurate, as well.

I think SlimJim is on the right track here, but I think the real question is.....

Any pictures of your girlfriend with the belt fed machinegun?

:D

Oleg, thanks! Means a lot, I'm a big fan of your work. :)

Sorry guys! The belt-fed gun (we couldn't figure out what it was, I wish we had asked!) was being used by a pair of guys at the other end of the range. They were the ones with the SKS and AK also.

I guess "machine" was a poor choice of wording to describe the firearm, as it was semi auto. Sorry for any confusion there.
