150gr at 2840FPS? Is this a Mosin 91/30? The numbers match except for the sight height. I have seen several scope mounts and not many were 5 inches above bore. Even setting up a scout scope with very long eye relief would be more accurate than a scope sitting 5 inches above bore.

That’s because I’m goofy. I read the 50mm as 5.0 inches. So that translates to like 1.9/2”

Glad we got it sorted out, that sounds more within normal terms. Simple translating error is all it was.

Here's your updated chart:

Thanks! 9.5 inches high at 200 yards seems pretty high. When I get a chance to do this properly (I’m going to use my shotgun until then) I think I should consider a different sight in distance. Given my shooting ability maybe limit myself to 250 or so yards.

Looks like 250yrds will give you a MPBR of almost 300yrds with a 6" target. Sounds like a good zero range to me!

Some calculators can be a pretty close, they depend on numbers that are an accurate description of what theoretically will happen.

I’m thinking if I sight in at 4 inches high at 25 I’ll be within 6 inches of where I’m aiming out to 400 yards....

Your numbers are a great illustration of why the math is fun to play with but why it is always advisable to actually test so you can see the difference between what one thinks should happen and what actually will happen.

Even if you did have a round that could have a max PBR of 400 yards with a 6” zone elevation wise, you would want to input wind in there to know it’s effects, at some point before thinking it’s inconsequential at that range.

If I were going to rely on just the math, especially if I were to be risking just wounding and animal to run off and die, I would rather zero at 400 and assume by math backwards where I would be at 25 yards.

Turns out the state actually has a free shooting range on state land not too far from where I work. Understandably that’s not without its risks but if it’s 100-200 yards it’ll be worth it.

Got it sighted in slightly high at 100 yards. That should do me, I’ll do my best to keep my shots at 100 yards at most.
