I was at work today and was back in the warehouse marking the linear feet on rolls of carpet that had been cut. I was marking a roll (while standing on top of another) when I turned around and slipped on the clear plastic that the roll of carpet I was standing on was wrapped in. I hit the roll with my right hip (the side that the clip of the knife is exposed) and the clip on my Buck Vantage Avid knife dug into the plastic and bent badly. I got my knife out of the carpet, removed the clip and broke the clip as I tried to bend it back into shape.

I called Buck, explained what happened and their customer service lady told me that the parts would be about $5.00. I told her I would be happy to pay it because I really enjoy wearing and using this knife and that is was MY FAULT and NOT THE KNIFE'S FAULT. She laughed, put me on hold for a minute, got my address and told me to not worry about paying for the parts, that Buck would send me a clip and screws for no charge.

Look, I know that $5.00 is not a lot, but still I thought it was a nice gesture on Buck's part to do that considering that it was entirely my fault. I do not like spreading bad news. I like spreading good news, so I just wanted to take this opportunity, however small it may be, to say that Buck is an outstanding company that makes really good products, and the folks that work there are tops.

Knives I own made by Buck:
Buck 110
Buck Zipper
Buck 503 (Prince)
Buck Vantage Avid

Soon to add:
Buck 112
Buck 119
Buck Vantage Select (the small one)

Made in Idaho, USA by some really great folks.

Indeed

And indeed this is consistent with my own experiences.

They're a good outfit, and I'm glad they're close to me.

It wasn't even remotely a factor when we chose this place to live, it was something I learned only after it was a done deal.

Having now met them face to face, talked with the company's chairman, its president, and its employees, watched them conduct business and deal with customers, I'm happy we landed here.

On the down side, I find I no longer have an accurate count of my Buck knives. Depressing. I'm always stumbling over yet another one I stuck in a drawer or a box and missed getting it signed. Oh, in truth I don't have all that many of them. I think. Something like three dozen or so. Maybe.

Good stuff, though.

Oh, and I do have a Vantage Avid. Nice knife. EDC. (Looking forward to the Paradigm.)

Buck has always had one of the best customer service and warranty departments you'll ever deal with!!!

I've had good experiences with Kershaw CS that resemble yours w/ buck.

Only buck I own is a Hartsook...really cool knife for wearing to the gym, because it seems like I always need a knife when I get back from the gym to open a UPS package :p

I really like buck. i have a little pretty Alpha dorado folding knife and a big 4 inch omni hunter which makes a really nice skinning knife. i like em.

Just opened a Buck Goliath (bet ya never heard of it) I've personally had sitting around for a dozen or so years after I went on a bit of a Benchmade assisted-opening buying spree last year.

Schrade LB7's were the first real knives we owned as "kids" and wore 'em till we lost 'em -- never did "cash-in" on the "they'll replace 'em free if you lose 'em" guarantee tho some intended to do so no matter what. Bucks were next.
