Giving up RCBS Summit press

I've been loving my lee classic cast that I purchased after selling the summit. I feel like it has greater inherent precision, leverage, and strength over the summit. Not to mention best primer handling ever. Only thing I don't like is the shell holder can pop out the right side so if I'm pushing in a stubborn case, it will remove the shell holder. I wish it was reversed so that it came out the left, but that would change the primer arms setup. I may mod it anyway, because I don't think I'll use the priming system much anyway

Paddy, if you don't plan on priming on the press just turn the top part of the ram, that way you can insert the shell holder from either side.

I had given it some thought, and the split pin in the bottom of the ram of the standard CC press has put me off some. I think I would prefer the one piece bottom pin and solid ram of the breach lock version. It isn't the quick change of dies that intrigues me, but the strength of the press that has me leaning towards the breach lock press. That and the spent primer tube on my CC turret press has a way of working loose without me being aware of it, and then the spent primer mess sort of going wherever it chooses. It seems to me that the tube is more likely to remain in place if it isn't reciprocating on the bottom of the ram. The breach lock looks to have the spent primer system sort of statically mounted to the left of the ram, so the tube doesn't go up and down with each stroke of the press.

The only split pin I have in my Lee CC is the one in the top of the ram for the primer arm. The tube doesnt come off unless you pull on it due to the bottom of the ram shaft being a bit bigger than the tube opening. Having the ability to change from left to right handed and adjusting the lever control is what sold me on it. Its a very good press for the money.

If you're looking at a Lee Press, I'd recommend you lool at the non-Breech Lock version.

You can add the Hornady Bushing adapter to it and have the same quick change feature, but more importantly, you'll have a much better spent primer handling system

I second this. Or get an RCBS and put the Hornady bushings in it. I have a LnL SS, its a decent press as well.

I am looking at buying an Iron Press, primarily for primer handling reasons because I load 308 on my SS.

Stubbicatt, My apologies, you are correct that is a new "trick" from RCBS. For some reason I read 1/4 turn in your OP instead of 3/4. They state in their instructions 1/4 to 1/2 turn, not 3/4 turn of the die to remove the play in the linkage.
That's what my addendum to the Summit Instructions says...
