I have a Glenfield 25 that I am refinishing and Im wondering if floating the barrel. It only has one take down screw and I really don't want to get into pillar bedding it or anything like that . It already is a decent shooter but would like all I can get out of it... I have already replaced the spring in the trigger to lighten it up some.

Finally the question is: Can you successfully free float a barrel on a gun that has only one take down screw holding it in the stock??

Thanks for your replys

No, not fully free-floating it at least.

I would want at least as much barrel contact in front of the screw as behind it.
Otherwise there would be nothing to keep the action from rocking in the stock.

I think you might be better off fully glass bedding it for full contact the whole length.

Thanks RC, that is kind of what I thought.. I think I will leave well enough alone for now...
