Glock 17 Gen 4 video

Found it quite informative. Considering getting a Glock 17 now, because it Gen 4s fit me better.

I only own one Glock (G34) so I can't comment on anything might have "got wrong". However, that's an awesome set of videos. Kudos.

I agree with a lot of what you said on there. I like the grip texture on the Gen4 (they really got that right), the little bit slimmer grip, and the new mag release. I'm seeing a lot of other reports that the new recoil spring assembly does not like the light loads too. My 9mm reloads that I was running were 124 grain bullets over titegroup. How many grains of titegroup were you using?

Thanks for checking out the video. Currently i use 4.0 grains of titegroup. Actually had it down 3.7 but i barely made PF. I think it will run fine if i step it up more.

Thanks for the video

Just want to say thanks for the video. When i come home with a new gen 4 glock i will be sure to tell the wife.....That it is all your fault for making me buy one!

Yeah, that's a pretty light load. I usually load em up with 4.4. It is nice being able to use something super light at times though. I would still opt for the Gen4 just from the grip improvements alone. I picked up the Gen4 17 and the M&P 9 and the M&P 9 felt like it was made out of soap next to the G17. Much grippier but not overly grippy like the RTF frames.

I actually want to get a M&P Pro 9 to also use in production class. Currently i use the G34 and CZ SP01. Hopefully I'll be able to get a Lone Wolf Dist. glock replacement frame. Then i'll do a comparison of the G34/G17gen4/LWD Frame.

Nice vids, would love to have seen them prior to my purchasing a gen4. I decided I needed a polymer frame weapon to add to my collection. Not because I feel polymer frames are better or worse than steel or alloy, but simply because I don't own one. Naturally, that self justifies yet another purchase for me. :D I've agonized for quite awhile between the 17 and an XD. The Gen4 and it's new grip sealed the deal for me. Admittedly, I'll probably still end up buying an XD, also.

Odd...my new Gen4 17 came with 3 mags? Not that I'm not complaining...I'm just wondering why mine had 3 when I was told it would be shipped with 2 (and that's what I read?).

I like the rougher texture, though I'd love it to be rougher still. I'm used to aggressive checkering on steel, so it still feels a little too smooth to my hands. Nothing some aftermarket tape won't fix I guess. The mag release seems much better than all the other glocks I've shot/handled...but since this is my first Glock that I've owned I'm not a good judge. I don't particularly care that it is reversible since I'm not southpaw.

Maybe one day Glock will see fit to put some front slide serrations on the 17 for a quick press check to check the chamber. Yes, I know there are lots of other ways to check, but I prefer press checks.

I like the grip so much better than previous Glock 17's, just seems to fit my hand so much better. I can honestly say there is no way I would have bought this weapon were it not for the improved (to me at least) grip. The older ones "fit" but I just didn't like the feel. I'm still getting used to the grip angle as I prefer XD/1911 style. I'm learning to adapt slowly since for some reason I always wanted a glock or two for my collection. This one will more than likely server as my nightstand or vehicle weapon once I get used to bringing it to point of aim quicker. I've never been one to criticize such a thing and I'm not now, I simply haven't gotten %100 comfortable with it. I grew up shooting 1911's and revolvers, that's all...I'm sure I'll adapt just fine eventually.

Overall I'm happy with my purchase and like any other firearm I buy, I'll reserve my final judgment until I put around 1000 rounds through it. If I like enough will determine whether or not my next purchase will be an XD 3.8 or a Glock 19. That should give me enough time to see if they make any changes to the 19 by that time.

Rumours say the Gen4 19 and 23 might be out this summer.

I like the rougher feeling current 19 RTF, anyway. The 19 has always it m hand where the 17 felt "funny" to me. Maybe by that time they'll lower prices on existing RTF stock if Gen14 19's are floating around...lower prices always influence my decisions.

I'd sort of like to turn this one into a target plinker/home defense tool. I'd like to hear if anyone has experienced any decent improvements in grouping or accuracy on a 17 with a lone wolf 17L barrel in a 17. Guess I'll have to post that question somewhere.

the textured grip seems to be a good thing, ambidextrious mag relaese is a good thing, and the interchangeable backstraps are a good thing. the only thing i wish they would have kept is the barrel lugs and recoil springs the same so those parts could interchange with the older models.

my computer has no speakers, so i didn't catch the reason (if it was given) why Glock changed the barrel lugs and springs. anybody know? and am i wrong for thinking that these parts would not interchange with the older design? just curious.

Consensus seems to be not too many people like the new dual recoil spring. I don't think it's needed for the 9mm. More noticable on the .40s&w.

Supposedly the new recoil system is suppose to reduce felt recoil. Also to address some issues with people getting jams with attached lights or accessories, apparently.

Some parts do interchange, what doesn't is barrel, slide, recoil spring, trigger housing, magazine release.

old news. no new info that hasn't been available for months now.

i'll be sticking with my gen3 RTF2 g19, thanx.

.....and by the way, the screwed on front site mentioned in the 2nd video has been on the gen3's for quite some time now.

I actually didn't know about the screw on front sight until someone else mentioned it. Then i checked my G29 i got recently and saw it. All my other glocks are fairly old and had the stake on sights.

And i know it's old news and been out for months, i was replying to the previous poster that was asking.
