Both good guns, but the 19 makes a lot of sense. 15rds i a vey size efficient shootable package.

Chose the 17.

For my purposes it "fits" me the best simply because:

-it holds 2 more rounds in its magazine than the 19 does and is neither overly large nor overly heavy for its higher capacity

-it offers me a substantially better feeling, more hand-filling grip by way of its extra available grip length (my hands are large)

-it conceals just as easily as a 19 does for me (I'm a pretty big guy at 6'2", 250) all year long, be it under a loose fitting draped T-shirt or colorful Hawaiian shirt in the summer or a heavy sweatshirt/coat in the winter

-it offers both a slightly longer sight radius than the 19 (0.47") and a slightly longer barrel (also 0.47") which gives me slightly better potential accuracy and increased velocity, respectively

-it is the "original" Glock, afterall :)

The G19 get my preference, since I have 2. I do love my G17 though. Not planning on getting rid of it at all. The G26 comes in tied with the G19's.

I don't know why, but the Glock 19 seems be more accurate.
I shot with both, but Glock19 fit my small hands better and a like the size and balace of Glock19 better.

With ~35 votes in, looks like ~25% for the 17 and ~75% for the 19. Feedback indicates smaller hand shooters will tend to be in the 75% G19 crowd and vice-versa. Useful information for my choice - thanks all.

R/D,

After reading your last post above, I am left wondering what you ultimately chose.

Was this a choice as to which model to purchase, a selection choice for a CCW piece or both?

GS

If it is not for CCW I would go with the 17, as I like how it fits my hand better.

For CCW, I have a 2nd Gen 19 and love it, but it does not quite fit my hand right.

It's all about what you are looking to do with the gun, IMHO.

Gunslinger - I'm looking at the 19 now mainly as a fun to shoot high cap 9mm range gun. Not much more than that. I doubt it will ever get carried instead of my Kahr, but who knows.

I'd heard from a couple folks locally that they perferred the smaller 19 for this purpose - just liked how it shot and handled better. More fun to shoot for them, etc. I was looking for some independent corroboration from a wider audience before I pulled the trigger, as it were.

I long gravitated toward the medium pistol - Glock 19, SIG 229, etc. Now, I would pick the full-size 17. The 17 is just a touch heavier, and the trigger reach is the same as grip circumference is the same. The full-size grip feels better to me, and eliminates the pinched palm syndrome during fast reloads. Finally, neither is small enough for ultra-concealment in a pocket, etc. I can hide the 17 under a jacket, un-tucked shirt, etc. just as easy as the 19. I go to a J-frame S&W when necessary.

You will be well-served by either one. The 17 and 19 were built around the 9mm.

I like the size (i.e. concealability) of the 19 better. I don't own one, but I do own a 23 which has the same external dimensions.

Get both if possible. The 19 is more easily concealed and gives up nothing in terms of shootability for the average person, while the 17 is just fun to have.

G19, I just like smaller guns and it is the one I currently have. I got a really good deal on a very slightly use pistol. I have not shot a G17 yet but will soon.

We Have Both...

Which do I like to shoot better?

Man, that's tough! :scrutiny:

Judy's G19 does everything well--Everybody Needs A G19! :D

On days when I'm not doing great with the G17 or G21, I can always punch out an all nines and tens target with two mags through the G19; always. I'm all smiles when I shoot that gun.

My G17 is set up for me, with a Hogue Hand-All grip (I have large hands) and Dawson Precision FO/Adj sights. When I'm in the zone, I produce the tightest groups with it.

The first shot I ever fired with my G17 pierced the cross-hairs of the bull's-eye at 30-feet with the stock sights. That was 10,000 trouble free rounds ago... What's not to love? Judy's G19 has given similar service...

My oldest son has produced several all tens targets (he shoots maybe 10 X per year) with the G17 set up. He can't do it with the other two Glocks. He too, has large hands.

Truthfully, I can't say which I like to shoot better. But put another way, if I could only have one of the two, I'd take the G19 for its handier size. But that's a harsh world, dude! :uhoh:

FWIW, my bedside gun is a G21 (another 10,000-round veteran), and I sleep very well, knowing its there! :)
