Glock 17 Upgrades For Competition

I like the Way Of The Gun trigger I installed in my G34. JP makes a good magwell, but you need + mag extensions for it to work. You may want an extended mag release, according to your preferences.

I polish a Glock 34.3 trigger bar, polish the fp safety, and connector. You can even polish the plastic that the trigger slides on, but it'll do that itself in a few thousand rounds. I use a cloth dremel wheel and Turtle Wax Chrome polish.

Aftermarket strikers are polished nicely. And you can cheat here, lube the striker a little. But detail strip and clean it before CCW use.

How smooth the Glock trigger feels, improves with age, and has no effect on the performance of the pistol. Only the break does that. So only the connector and striker spring effect that.

Pick up a Lone Wolff striker spring kit. Medium should help a little. Avoid the light spring. It often needs stretched, and improper setting, might effect the Glocks safety.

So I'm thinking for the time being I'm just going to stick with sights and shoot it/dry fire a bunch and see if the trigger breaks in any. I'm thinking if I do anything beyond that just a 3.5 connector and some polishing.

Any other minor things worth changing???
Good idea. FYI if you want to shoot SSP in IDPA you can't run a magwell or aftermarket trigger (you CAN run a Vogel drop in or other that uses stock externally visible parts. The two things I consider essential are a smooth faced factory trigger (the 17 comes with one already), an extended factory magazine release (for gen 3 or below) and an extended factory slide lock/release lever. A (-) factory connector is worth trying but make sure you like the trigger break afterward. Some of my Glocks feel better to me with the standard connector. All of these are legal mods in SSP. if you want to run a magwell, shave the trigger guard, stipple the grip, or install an aftermarket trigger "bow" that will put you in ESP division. If it matters to you.

Over here, SSP is no more of a beginner class than ESP. I hate chewing up my Glock frames, so went straight to ESP with a mini magwell.

So just throw down in whatever class your pistol falls into. Sometimes, CDP is a nice beginner class, sometimes it's chalk full of experts. You're only competing with yourself when new. After that, keep an eye out where other new shooters are moving in your AO.
