Hi all, would it be a smart idea to trade a 3rd gen glock 17 with the olive drab frame and trijicon night sights for a standard glock 19. The primary use of this gun is IWB concealed carry and im starting to think that the 19 might be a bit more appropriate. Any thoughts?

the od frames a really desirable and worth more than all black ones but i do like the 19 better

If it is for concealment, the G19 is a much better choice. I like the G19 better than the G17 in general anyway.

The real solution is to keep the G17 for target shooting, and buy the G19 for CCW... then the G26 for deep concealment, the G20 for a hunting companion sidearm, the G27/G23/G22 when you decide the 9mm looks too small or the G31/G32/G33 if the 9mm seems too slow, and the G21/G30 when the 40 is not as fun to shoot as the 9mm use to be. By that time you might as well buy a .45 GAP or two, just to complete the collection.

If you decide to sell that od 17, let me know... glock 19 would be better for concealed carry... 17 is more of a service pistol

A Glock 19 is not a miniature version of the 17, and a 17 is not a larger Glock 19. They are two separate models with distinct feels. Which fits your hand? Which do you shoot better with? Iff they're equal for you, then the next consideration is concealment. If you can't conceal the 17, then look at the 19.

I didn't fire a Glock 17 until several years of Glock 19 use, mostly due to the former being too large on my frame for concealment. I was surprised at the difference in ergonomics.

I love how the 19's feel and handle. Maybe even better than the 17.
You just answered your own question:) The 19 either fits you or it dont. The spacing on the finger grooves rubs some fingers the wrong way, and making the 17 a better fit. I noticed that later Gen3 finger grooves are more pointed, giving me a bit more room on the G19, the older more rounded grooves, I dont like.

I have shot competitions with both models and they both perform very well for me. In terms of concealment and the way the gun feels I would have to give the edge to the 19. But the fact that my 17 was the gun I used through B.L.E.T. and has been with me pretty much 24/7 ever since makes me very hesitant to trade it. I guess the sentimental value makes this a harder decision. I may just have to save up for a new 19 rather than trading.

I personally don't like the blood blister I'll get doing speed reloads on a 19, but I have bigger hands.

Keep the 17 and save for the 19.The 17 fits my hand better, but taking the humps off the 19 helped alot.

This. I predict that you would eventually regret selling the 17 since it has sentimental value. Once it goes, you can't go back.

Get the 19. My EDC is a gen 4 G19 that I carry IWB in a Crossbreed Supertuck, with an extra mag in my left pocket, and an LCP in a Blackhawk nylon pocket Holster in my right pocket.

I am 6'4" and it disappears no problem. The G19 is a great pistol. It has only 2 rounds less than the 17, but you can always carry a 17 mag as a backup if you please(I find a standard G19 mag, along with a back up mag, to be enough).

If you get the 19 get a set of XS big dots tritium night sights.m I bought some recently, and they are great. Very fast sight acquisition. They are also a breeze to install. The sights come with everything you need for the installation(nylon punch, a thread locking liquid, front sight tool, and obviously the sights).

Ok, I'm done ranting.... Get the 19 and call it a day! ;)

I also happen to prefer the G19 over the 17. I agree that the ergos are a bit different and prefer the 19. Withthe 17, I get the feeling that there's too much weight on the front end due to the larger slide. With the 19, it all seems much more balanced.

I wouldn't trade a gun that has some sentimental value. That's something you'll regret sooner or later.

I am saving up for a G19, personally. Little by little, since I wanna buy some reloading gear and have other expenses, too, but I plan to buy her by the end of the summer or next fall, hopefully.

Go with the 19

I have carried both the 17 and 19 on duty. They shot the same for me, but the 19 was lighter, more compact and easier to conceal. It was that simple.
