I'm planning to pick up a glock 19 at the show tomorrow for concealed carry. For a long time I had my eye on the 19c. Now the gen 4 is out and I can't decided which one I want. Any opinions/advice is/are welcome.

A Gen 3 9mm works. If it fits your hand, no reason to look elsewhere. Gen 4 probably works as well, but there has been scuttlebutt about issues, I'd personally go 3 for the moment.

That's just one opinion though.

When shooting 9mm Glocks, I really don't feel any difference in recoil between the regular and the C compensated models. For me the bottom line is fit. I picked a Gen 4 G17 because the grip (without any inserts) fit my hand better than the Gen 3. Some folks don't recommend the compensated models as there is a perceived issue with debris coming out of the ports when fired close to the body. I personally don't have an issue with this. I can tell you that that ported models are much louder.

I say get the Gen4. From what I hear, it's flatter shooting than the Gen3 models. The grip texture is definitely nicer on the Gen4. They also seem to have gotten the bugs worked out.

Yes, I have heard that the dual spring recoil rod of the gen 4 makes it easier to shoot double taps. Right now I'm leaning towards the Gen 4, provided that it's available, and as cheap as I remember it being at the last show.

Yeah, I'm not sure I would want porting on a gun like that. I have a G23 and, even with the high-pressure .40 round, I have never had issues controlling it. The only ported auto I have is a G24, and that is an Open Class gun.

I don't find any of the "improvements" necessary on the Gen 4. My Gen 2 works just great so I imagine that the Gen 3 is the same or better. The 4th generation just seems like answers to questions that...I at least, didn't have, and that seems like opening up a door to potential problems. Just my $.02.

No C, no need and you will be wiping off your front sight every few clips. I don't like holes in my guns unless there is a reason, like FMJ said 9mm doesn't require it.

I'd love to get my hands on a Gen 4 G23 for carry and range purposes.
They're just too cool! I have a gen2.5 G20C and a gen3 G22 love 'em both.
Want to aquire a gen4 G21 as well.

I have owned a Gen 3 19c and currently own a Gen 4 non compensated, so this is one of the few threads that I can comment on.

Let me first advise, if you haven't already, hold each. And if you can, rent and fire both. The Gen 4 fits my hand size better.

I had some issues with the 19c and am currently testing the reliability of my gen 4. With that said, I would carry either the 19c or gen 4 19 all day long. Both have had their quirks, but after breaking them both in they never failed to go bang.

In my opinion the compensated models do not cause you to go blind when you fire them at night, even though some will say they will. There is the issue however, as stated above, of the gasses and "debris" affecting the opperator when fired from a one handed defensive position (close to the body). It seems the ports are in direct aim of ones face when the gun is fired in this position.

In terms of recoil. I also have a different opinion than most. The compensation does indeed help with the hotter 9mm loads that approach 40 s&w grain load, +p, +p+, and double/triple taps of any grain.

Also, if you considered shooting in IDPA, the compensated models can not be used in the production class unless you drop in a non compensated barrel.

If your hand size will allow, I would look at a Gen 3 19c, with the addition of a non compensated barrel. You can shoot it compensated at the range and drop in the non comped barrel for EDC and IDPA matches. There will be more availability for modification than with the Gen 4 also.

Just my 2 cents, hope this helps.

I carry a Gen 4, Glock 22 for duty use. I have shot both the gen 4 and gen 3 (only in .40), and really see very little difference in them. The nice thing about the gen 4 is the factory installed over sized mag release button. The tiny one on earlier generations was almost always replaced by every cop I know as they were about worthless with gloved hands. As far as the duel recoil spring aiding in muzzle rise, I never noticed a difference. I would think the grip fitting your hand should be the single biggest factor for consideration of purpose. If the gen 3 fits, get it, if the gen 4 (with the interchangeable back straps) works for you, then there is your answer.

my .02 ;)

I keep reading "if it's not broken", well maybe for large handed people it's not. I held out on a GLOCK for many years and was ready to pick up a gen3 19, they just work. Despite that it felt like crap. That's until a gen4 was placed in my hand, I was instantly converted. Then I shot it, very flat shooting and accurate. But that's just my experience, I'm sure others will feel differently.
Oh yes, and just shy 1000 rounds and no problems.

Love my Gen4 Glock 19. To me the grip options and better magazine release make it a much better option than another 3rd Gen gun.

I've got a bunch of 3rd Gen Glocks, and the Gen4 is definitely the future of the Glock line.

I keep hearing really good things about Gen4 glocks. I'm not sold on the oversized mag release, but as long as it isn't too sensitive I can deal with it. The grip shape on the gen4s is an improvement.

I would stay away from compensated models in general, unless you are going to just use it for competition.

I would shy away from the compensated model. That's a lot of dirt hitting the front sight, and if you shoot any low light the muzzle flash is right where you are looking.

Definitely not the C model for CC. For target, range, general fun, the C model would be fun. The flash of the C model is NO good for CC ( blind you, give away your position, etc). I have a Gen 3 G19 and like it quite a bit although, have been debating trading for a Gen 4. Thinking I'd probably get raped though so I haven't done it. If it was me I'd just go with the Gen4. Interchangeable backstraps ought-ta take care of the old " It doesnt fit me" gripe alot of people have. My thoughts. Enjoy your new Glock
