Looking for opinions (I know they are out there ). Just got a G19 gen4 MOS and debating whether to get a new barrel that I'd feel comfortable shooting my coated reloads or start reloading FMJ and use the Glock barrel.

I've had no problems shooting cast bullets in a Glock barrel.
Use a large enough bullet. Clean well, frequently.
You won't likely have a problem with the coated bullets.
Accuracy is so poor, I can't recommend most fmj's.

Most of the lead bullet problems came from swaged lead bullets heavily leading the throats and causing the early glocks to fire out of battery. A coworker had a G22 come apart shooting some swaged lead bulleted Master Cartridge Co. .40circa 1998. Led my agency to quit using reloaded ammo for training/qualification. But, he had shot over 200rds thru it during training/qualification without being given opportunity to strip/clean the firearm.
Most of the offending ammo is long gone from the market.
I'd recommend many of the plated bullets over the FMJ's. Th only FMJ's I've had good luck from are Hornady, Sierra, and for same prices, you can shoot good JHP's.
An undersized overly hard cast or soft swaged lead won't work well. Never had a problem with .357" cast slugs in a 9mm, or .401" in .40.
But then I do clean my barrels frequently. Not once a year, or when they start failing to feed or chamber like some I've known..

Shoot RMR 115/124grain FMJ out of my 19 and they are more accurate than I am. Ive also shot thousands of Xtreme 115/124grain plated Bullets without issues. I hear good coated Bullets are a non issue but I’ve never used any.

My other 9mm is a G34 with an S3F barrel and I load Berry's 124gr HBFP and Acme 147gr FP for it with excellent results. It would be nice to not add another bullet to the reloading mix. Although the RMR 124 JHP looks like an interesting one to try.
I seldom go more than 200 rounds between cleanings with any of my guns so that should be a non issue.

Gen 1 through 4 Glock barrels have rounded rifling that allows lead/coated lead bullets to jump deeper into the very smooth start of rifling (which leaks more gas and allow more fouling to build up near chamber and down the barrel) and fast 1:10 twist rate allow more skidding/sliding down the barrel that can affect accuracy.

Gen 5 Glock barrels have conventional square cut land/groove rifling that are more compatible with lead/coated lead bullets.

In general, jacketed bullets produce greater accuracy with factory barrel (~1:10 twist rate) over plated/lead bullets. RMR FMJ and various plated bullets could be bought on sales for good prices. With plated bullets, I would recommend slightly larger sized bullets (.3555"-.356") for greater accuracy - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...re-sized-the-same.818806/page-2#post-10567453

If you want/need greater accuracy with coated lead bullets, I would consider using aftermarket barrels. I use KKM (1:24 twist rate) and Lone Wolf (1:16 twist rate) barrels and KKM barrel has produced slightly greater accuracy.

Welcome to THR lots of great people here.

I don't own a Glock but the RMR 124gr FMJs shot well for me in a couple different 9mms.
$82/k - 5% about $78 shipped.
RMR (Rocky Mountain rReloading) is a great place to do business with has free shipping and offers THR members a 5% discount with a code.
PM me if your interested in the code.

Dudedog, I'd PM you for that code but I'm not clear on how to do that on this forum. Is it the 'start a conversation ' tab?
