Im looking to a Glock for my CCW because I love my 22 and want a smaller one. Im going 9mm for control reasons. I was originally going with the 26 because its easier to conceal but lately I have been fiddling with a 19 and found it easy to conceal. With the 19 I get more velocity, better handling, and a higher round count. With the 26 I get a more concealable gun. I have a mouse gun for deep concealment so thats no problem.
Has anyone found the 19 to be a burden for CCW and wished they had a 26?

The 19 is the same width as, and only an ounce heavier than the 26. About a half inch longer. The biggest size advantage of 26 over 19 is the height, which is less than an inch difference.

For compromising the ability to put all three fingers on the GRIP, is it worth the slight size reduction? Not like it's really pocket carryable (though some do). If you want smaller than a 19, I'd go with a Kahr.

19.

+1.

When I carried a 19 I thought it was the perfect CCW package. Except the trigger sucked. Which is why I don't carry one. Anymore.

Poor trigger

Here are a couple things that can be done to your Glock trigger that cost under $12.00 and will improve the trigger. These are easy and for me fun to do.
1. 3.5 connecter
2. When changing the connecter polish the trigger parts before putting them back in the gun.

I would recommend the 19. I used to carry a GLOCK 22 as my duty gun and a 27 for off-duty. I later went to a department that did not allow the .40 so I went with a 19. It was very nice having just one gun for on and off-duty. I did not find the 19 any harder to conceal than the 27 (same size as the 26) and it was nice to have the longer grip to hang on to. The 19 is just about the perfect size 9mm pistol.

The G19 is a great choice if deep concealment isn't an option. I'm a small framed guy and have no problem with the G19 most of the year. I'm not sure about your body size or more importantly hand size, but the G26 may present a few problems if you have large hands.

Have you fired a 23? It's essentially the same as the 19 size wise (meaning you should be able to get your whole hand around it) and you should be able to interchange mags with your duty gun (I think they would stick out a bit)

Just something to consider...

The G19 is a good choice if you already have a mouse gun for deep concealment. Many G26 owners end up buying grip extenders which give them G19-like size without the additional rounds.

I have a 26. Its perfect size for me to carry, but it is a bit small for extended range use, so i'm picking up a 19 next. Either that or a used 17 with a chopped grip ("19L").

I think either way you are good to go, although I wish I'd gotten the 19 first. Better to have the gun that is comfortable to shoot I think.

All carry guns are compromises. In light of that, we each weigh the compromises in light of what is important to us (caliber, weight, size, material of construction, capacity, etc. etc. etc).

For me, and I think for a lot of people, the 19 represents an excellent set of compromises, resulting in a great Concealed carry weapon.

I've happily carried my G26 for years and have no intention of looking for anything else to carry because it suits me so perfectly. I don't use the grip extensions, and I've used my G26 for classes and competitions with no trouble. Have shot tens of thousands of rounds downrange and can make the little gun do everything you could ever want a concealed carry handgun to do (including shooting a man-sized target at more than 50 yards).

In my opinion, the most common cause for failure to carry faithfully is getting a too-large gun for CCW. Sure, you can make a bigger gun work -- but if the smaller one works for you, why go to all that bother? (This obviously does not apply to those for whom the smaller gun does not work ...)

All that said. At some point I'm looking to get a larger Glock for range work and class demos. While I've proven to my own satisfaction that I can use the little gun well, a bigger gun just makes more sense for a lot of things.

Bottom line? Suit yourself. ;)

I basically echo Pax's points. The G26 is great, and its small enough to be easily carried, which is a good thing, and means you'll carry.

For me, the 19 is still concealable, but not quite as easily as the G26, so G26 for carry it is.

I agree with pax and Rob1035. The G26 is easier to conceal IWB for me due to the shorter grip. Two fingers is plenty to hold the pistol with due to it's hump being in just the right place to lock the gun into your palm...just let the little finger curl under.

19 no doubt.

Had both and sold the G26 because it really was not that much more concealable.

Easily the 19.

With the 26, the pink hangs under the grip, which can be quite annoying. For many people, the add a pinky extension to the gun so that all fingers can fit the gun, BUT WHATS THE POINT!?

Would the 26 be worth it with the same length grip w. the grip extension and slightly shorter barrel? I think not.

The G19 is very comfortable, and its compact enough that carry would be no problem. I see the G26/27/G33 models to be more of a hassle and a pain instead of a solution.

Get the Glock 19.

I had a G26 and now own a G19.

When I had the G26 I had Pierce +1 extensions on it and it pretty much made the front strap as long as that on the G19. The back strap on the G26 is not that much shorter than the G19 plus the G19 held four more rounds in the mag. I went with the larger gun and never looked back.

Flip.

FWIW, I honestly don't think a G26 with pearce +0s on the mags is the same size as a G19. Closer? For sure, but its still smaller, even in the grip. More importantly, the G26 can be used in a smaller configuration with flat mag bases. Can't do that with a G19.

I will concede though, G19 is a fantastic, all around choice for a first glock. I just dont understand why glock didnt bevel the front end of the slides on ALL their pistols...

Thanks guys, I think Im getting the 19 because:
1. with the 26 I need the grip extension for it to feel right.
2. I like the extra rounds
3. Im a medium build guy and can conceal it easy.

Thanks for all the info.

The mid size frame & slide works best for me for most applications...that said, I'd go w/ the 19 (oh wait, I did!)

I'd go with the Glock 19. TheGlock 26 is simply a slightly modified (i.e. chopped down) version of the Glock 19. I own a Glock 19 and have handled the Glock 26. The difference isn't enough to prompt me to purchase one.

I have a G19 (first generation - owned since 1993) and a G26 (bought this year) and will take the G26 over the G19 EVERY time. The G26 is smaller, lighter, and easier to conceal, but, for some strange reason, I can outshoot the G19, every time, with the G26. The 9mm is a light recoil round and the G26 is very easy to maintain control, even without my pinky on the grip.....or while shooting with only three fingers. If you really want to have your pinky on the gun, you can get a pinky extension, and even +2 extensions. I really like my G26, and won't get rid of it for anything (the G19 would definitely go first).
