Almost got my mind made up. My wife and I drove to the base PX and they had a Glock 17, 20, and 21. I can get the 17 and the 21 for a total of $909 for both pistols, no tax. But then I keep wondering about the 10mm. Pluses would be 10mm power and weakness would be ammo. I already load 45acp. Don’t load 10. Decisions, decisions, decisions. I got a bit to wait. Can’t get that price until the 18th.

Opinions?

<<Edited to clarify price is actually the total cost for both pistols, not just one or the other.>>

If you already load 45 then the 21 would be a good decision. If you really want a 10mm though the 20 is a great choice and you could always get into loading for it later on.

I own a Glock 21 SF and multiple 10mm guns, but no Glock 20. For my money, given your situation, I would buy the 21 to go with the 17 (and I love the 10mm to be clear here). You already load for the .45 and factory 10mm is usually down-loaded a fair degree. Further, 10mm brass is much scarcer and typically pricier when you do find it. You can always buy a G20 barrel and mags later to convert the gun if you want.

If I could do it all over again I would probably go with just a few calibers (I load for ~13 and shoot over 20). Maybe that's just made me a variety-caliber curmudgeon!

Tough call on 10mm vs 45 in this case. Depends a lot what one wants to do with it. If a range gun mostly, and since you load for .45 already that may push me to .45.

However, 10mm in a Glock 20 is a great option. Lots more power and 2 more rounds in the mag.

Every G20 that I've seen would feed and shoot 40 S&W ammo from the 10mm mags reliably and accurately. Just something to consider.

I had a G20 and G29. I personally liked the G29 better. It is a little smaller, but will take G20 mags for 15 rounds if needed. The smaller 10 round mags were easier to conceal.

I already had 1911's and other 45's so the G21 didn't fill a niche for me.

I was wanting a 10mm Glock and a G21 was offered to me for a more than fair price.

At the time, I just figured I could get a G20 clone upper (it’s a Gen 3) at some point and have the best of both.

Well, the G21 shoots so well my 10mm hankering went away.

I had a G21 and gifted it to a friend years ago. I replaced it with a G20 4 or 5 years ago. It shoots great and as mentioned, I bought a 40 S&W barrel and shoot a lot of 40S&W out of it. I had a G29 but thought the recoil was a bit much with my full bore handloads.

If I was to get a 10mm, it would definitely be a G20. But I have no use for that much power. There is literally nothing I need to put a hole in that 45 ACP will not handle, and 10mm is expensive and can be hard to come by. So, that's why I have a Glock 21 SF. And a couple of 1911's in 45.

This type of statement has always confused me. Most would say pistols are terribly weak and ineffective compared to rifles and shotguns. Yet they may also say that a particular handgun cartridge is more powerful than they need.

There are rumors floating around that the Gen 5 20/21's are coming soon. It will be interesting to see what comes of that.

Get the 21.

You already load 45acp.

If you get a hankering for more power, you have plenty of options with the 21.

You can load 45 super with minimal, cost.

The 45 Rowland/450SMC are the nuclear options for less than the cost of a new gun and are the most power you can squeeze from a Glock frame.

If you just want a 10mm just to have a 10mm (which is a valid reason) you can always build a new top end for your 21.

I have had good luck with 9mm against 2 legged predators, even though it was only a couple of instances. (Full disclosure: there is a reason modern pistols hold more than 1 round, so don't be shy, and they all need to be in the A zone- even with a rifle, BTW). I will carry larger calibers like 40 and 45 as a sidearm primarily when hunting, and esp. when my primary hunting tool is a shotgun with small shot (like bird hunting), hunting with a muzzle loader, or hunting with a crossbow (also, my bolt/broadhead combo is like $20). These handguns give me added power to address human threats, or the much more likely scenarios involving hogs, coyotes, or a bear that is a threat.

the glock 21 does 45 super. i have shot the model 21. accuracy is much better than my model 30.

luck,

murf

The 17 and 21 get my vote.

If you were already reloading for the 10mm then I would've sided with the 20 but with what you're describing, the 21 makes more sense. Someone else mentioned a conversion upper, that's a good option for later on. A project to look forward to.

You can load 45acp pretty hot. Buffalo Bore makes 45 loads that I would carry against anything I would carry a 10mm for. I'd go with the 21.

If you're gonna possibly be stopping a charging bear or a car anytime soon, then I'd get the G20, but from what I'm reading into your post, the 21 would make more sense.
I shoot and load for 10mm, .40, and 45acp. as already mentioned, 45acp brass is more available than 10mm, both new and fired.

The 21 is one of my last choices for Glock. I see no reason to put up with the fat bulky gun in 45. Id Take a 220 or 1911 for 45. The only reason to own the big Glocks (21-20-29-30-40) is for the power of 10mm to hunt with. But that is just my opinion.

I'm on the opposite side. Of all the glocks I would consider the glock 20 is first on the list (and the only glock I own, a 2nd gen). I would probably take an hk usp or mk23 over a glock 21.

Actually that's what I was saying. I like the 20. But the 21 is just big and bulky and only a 45 so Id rather have a number of guns in 45 over a 21. I actually carried a p97 that I liked the feel of better than the 21. Now there is the fnx 45. The p-220, the px4, the 320....id take a M&P or XD in 45 over the 21, and I don't own an XD or M&P at all. BUT the 20 is my favorite 10mm... and I have several 10mm. Ive hunted with a Glock 20 for 15 years. I have several USP including an older mk23 Probably the only gun with. More 2x4 like grip than a Glock. Lol. Excellent guns though. Ive wanted a MK23 in 10mm for years. Mentioned it on here for 10 or 15 years. Lol.

Our county went to the Glock 21 many years ago but had the exception for folks with small hands, which could use a glock 22. We had 6 foot 4 inch guys carrying the 22 because they liked it better. I had one buddy who liked the 45 better but most chose the .40. Lol. (before that we had a pretty long list of approved guns). The neighboring County carried the USP in 40. Both now carry the Glock 17 and 19. Nobody complains about the switch.
