Alright 10mm fanatics. I have a chance to get rid of my Sigma in .40 and get a 10mm. I've never had a Glock, but know they make a good product. The question is, will a G20 stand up to full power, and occasionally "hot", 10mm rounds. This gun will probably rarely see FBI Lite rounds. I just want to make sure it can handle the pressures etc before I take the plunge. I have heard the round is "just too powerful" for any handgun made (cracked slides, etc) and need to know if the indestructoglock is immune to these accusations. Thank you for your time!

They seem to stand up to it pretty well, I also post at another Glock-specific forum and have never heard of a 10mm Glock falling apart. I think it was more of a problem when modifying .45 ACP guns to be 10mm, the Glock 20/29 were designed from the beginning as 10mm pistols, the .45 Glocks were adapted from the 10mm models. I think that's the only platform that was designed in that order.

I have run lots of hot DT loads through my G20 with out a hitch. Actually, it is said to be one of the most durable platforms in existence for the 10mm. Love it and highly recommend it.

Sigma .40 to Glock 20. That's a phenomenal upgrade.

I second the feedback from these guys -- have always known G20 to be uber-durable.

I've never had a problem with my G20 running full power 10mm. Honestly, I don't think I have ever had a malfunction with it at all, and I have put roughly 3000 rounds through it since I bought it 4 years ago. I do have a Wolff guide rod and a 24# extra power spring on mine.

Glock 20 malfunction

I've had one malfunction with my Glock 20.

Had the exact same malfunction with my Winchester 1894 in 32 Special.

In both cases the loaded (factory) round failed to chamber. Upon investigation, in both cases I found the cartridge to be dimensionally out of spec.

This proves factory ammo isn't infallible. That's the reason guys going after big game (the kind that may take exception to your going after them) should always check their ammo for proper chambering before hitting the field. Not a bad idea for self defense ammo either.

For sure a trade up...although i do like the 2nd generation Sigma's...

Factor in if you reload and if you don't, the price of ammo is pretty up there... 30+ bux for 50rds of 10mm opposed to 12bux for some .40...

I own 2 10mm's and shoot them often... it adds up QUICK...

I've got both the G20 SF and the G29 SF. I shoot DT rounds through both and have never had a problem. I am also on different gun forums and have never heard of either gun shooting loose with full-house ammo.

My carry ammo in both is Double Tap's 180 gr. Speer Gold Dot (Bonded Defense).

sure the ammo costs a bit more but what the heck it is only money, Make sure she is fed properly and never let her go to bed dirty, lol
I dont think you will regret your decission. Good luck and God speed

You should probably point out that you have an after market barrel installed, before someone jumps down your throat for shooting lead in a polygonal bore.

Little Lone Wolf logo on there, I polished the barrel blocks of both my LWD barrels with some fineish, I think 600 or 800 grit sandpaper with a few drops of oil on it, they don't feel so abrasive anymore. I could have done without the logo, but whatever, it isn't ten dollars important to me.

My only reservation with the G20 is that the older style of barrels has a HUGE portion of the chamber that is unsupported. Combined with the hottest loads, this will likely reduce case life or even blow out a fresh case in the most extreme circumstances.

Wow guys, thanks for all the replies. I'm hopefully going to seal the deal on one sometime very soon. The one I have my sights on is 3rd gen. Any problems with the chamber on those? I don't do max loads, but I have been known to have a nice kick in my 357 rounds... As for useless noise, please don't comment if you have nothing constructive to say. You wasted my time and others. Please have some manners.

Glock changed their chambers a little sometime ago, they aren't as unsupported anymore, at least not in .40, I'm guessing .357 and 10mm got the same treatment.

WELL... guess what I found in the floorboard when I got home :D . Now, a quick question. Do I buy Glock 22 mags to shoot 40cal? I will soon have the springs and it came with the barrel. Thanks for helping me make my decision fellas.

No, you should be able to shoot the .40 from your G20 mags. The G22 mags will not seat/fit/feed out of a G20; dimensionally, the G20 mags are larger.

10 mm........An interesting way to turn money into useless noise.

Well. . .thank you for the insightful argument. . . were you going to continue with that comment or was that it?

I spend a lot of time in the mountains hunting, 4 wheeling, etc. I find the G20 10mm with proper ammo to be an effective self defense weapon. Much easier to carry than a big single action big bore revolver.
