This will be my first Glock. I want a 10mm for deer and yes i have looked at the g40 and about every other 10mm currently availabe. I'm not a huge fan of Glock but i like this pistol and how it feels.

I plan on rebarreling it with a Lonewolf and might go longer for hunting. I will be reloading for this gun.

I like the size as a possible carry gun, woods sidearm and hunting rig, it kind of fits all of those needs. Not going to put optics on whatever I get.

I admit, i wish Ruger made a 10mm pistol in something other than a 1911.

Is this a good choice? About the only 10mm i can't find local is the Rock island. I've handled everything else

It's a great choice as a woods carry type piece. For me, I wouldn't use it as a CCW, it's kinda large (thick). But, if you can make it work, go for it.

I handled one and though it felt ok in the hand. I don't particularly like Glocks, but to me, if you can get past the looks (sorry I think they are hideous), it seems to be a do everything gun. Though hunting with it may be a little challenging.

I am considering buying one of them too, and possibly a Glock 29 for carry. The more I shoot 10mm, the more I like it. And as you stated you plan to reload, I'm sure you are well aware of the variety of bullet weights. The versatility for different applications and of load data makes the 10mm a real winner to me.

I don't know that any of my 9's and 45's will go away, but I'd like to add a few more 10's.

I've had a G20 for a very long time, and added a G29 three years ago. With good loads it'll beat 357 mag from shorter barrels and is a lot closer to 44 mag from 4" or shorter barrels than a lot of guys think. You don't NEED a longer barrel unless it is to meet legal requirements. I get 1300 fps with DoubleTap 200 gr ammo from my stock G20 barrel and 1250 fps from the shorter G29.

I think either is as perfect a woods carry pistol as you can get, but I find that I shoot the G29 just as well and can always use 15 round G20 mags if I feel the need for more ammo. I have several 3-4" revolvers in 357 and 44 mag that never get shot except at the range. The Glocks are more than a pound lighter and 1-2" shorter.

The better 10mm loads are more than adequate for hunting or large predator protection. Plus the size and mag capacity make them suitable for traditional SD situations as well. But if I were buying a dedicated hunting handgun I'd still prefer a 6" or longer barreled magnum revolver. With barrels longer than 4" the revolvers do hit harder and the better sights and triggers usually mean better accuracy. The Glocks in 10mm are versatile enough to fill both roles.

If I were considering an 8 shot 1911 in 10mm I'd just as soon carry a magnum revolver with 6 shots. The weights are about the same and 2 more rounds probably won't matter. Being able to have 16 rounds of 10mm ammo in a package that light and small is comforting.

I'll echo all the positives that others mentioned and add that I was pleasantly surprised at how well it manages recoil in full power loads. I have both the 20 and 29 and the recoil to me is on par with my 1911's. The only downside to me is the ergonomics, which I'm not fond of.

I like the feel of the Gen4 better than the Gen3 which my son has. Anyway since you're reloading you'll be able to see the full potential of the 10mm. Not just a hopped up 40 S&W but a real powerhouse. And of course cheaper too. Our favorite powder is Power Pistol. PP is known as a flashy powder in most calibers but I don't notice it much in 10mm which to me says that it's getting used where it should be. Have fun.

It followed me home.

Time to set up a turret with some dies and a powder measure, and make some plinkers

I have a Gen3 sf and have thought about getting the Gen4. I like the texture of the grip stipling better on the Gen4. I put talon grips on and now am happy with the grip.

I have a 6" LWD barrel that I really enjoy but I run the OEM barrel when carrying. It's a big gun but in my Desantis OWB holster it carries quite well and with a shirt or jacket it's not too hard to conceal.

For hunting i generally carry it with the LWD barrel but have not had a chance to test it out on live game. Although the OEM barrel shoots very well, surprisingly well, I want any additional fps the longer barrel gives me for hunting purposes.

I think you will really enjoy it. It's a handloaders cartridge so I'm sure you will find out the huge range the 10mm covers. Ive never been a Glock fan but its a fun gun and also a great platform for additional cartridges such as 357sig, 9x25Dillon, etc.

I have a Glock 20, and a Glock 40. I vastly prefer the Glock 40 for anything other than concealed carry. The longer and heavier slide makes it noticeably easier to shoot.

How can I find a .357sig conversion barrel for the G20? Lonewolf use to make one but its no longer listed on their website. They list a .40 S&W conversion but nothing else.

Maybe KKM Precision? I've had several of their conversion barrels, top notch.
40 is a great sub caliber for the 10mm. My conversions were super accurate and 40 is a no brainer at the bench.

According to Glock, the G-20 is heavier than the G-40, same with the G-21 being heavier than the G-41.
I don't think you're going to find a softer shooter than the gen 4 G-20. I thought the gen 3 G-20 was a pretty soft shooter, at least compared to 10mm 1911's.

I've noticed that too. Must be the cutout on the slide otherwise the G40 should obviously be heavier.

I'm pretty sure that is wrong too. I weighed a G40 a while back on a good scale and it was a good bit heavier than the site shows. Can't recall the exact number now.

OK, did a weigh in:

32.6 oz empty, no mag
35.7 oz empty std. mag, empty chamber
44.2 oz 17 rds of 155 jhp, empty chamber (Pierce mag ext)

Weird, loaded and unloaded, I'm 4 oz heavier than Glock's weights. Checked it on two scales last time with very close results.

I handled a G40 this past weekend. I had to think about it, but since I already have a Sig P220 in 10mm with a 5" barrel, I don't see myself needing or wanting a G40. Yeah, there is an extra inch of barrel on the G40, and it may be a little more pleasant to shoot, but the G20 just felt more balanced to me.

Need to save my pennies. Already ruined my gun budget for the year.

I bought a G20 gen 4 a while back for basically the same reasons. I love the way it shoots , it will shoot 40 S&W with the stock 10mm barrel . So I sold my XD40 and bought a G17 gen 4 because I I think 9mm is a good power level for woods bumming and 9mm is the cheapest centerfire to shoot. My lovely wife bought me a G26 for CCW and now a G42 is well on its way to replacing my KelTec P32 as a front pocket pistol
I used to not care for Glocks but once you really start seriously shooting them the grow on you
Drooling over a G29 but that my have to wait until next tax check
