Ladies.

First off in regards to a true combat pistol, The Glock 21 is the KING. A .45 Cal 13+1 capacity Light weight highly accurate AK47 reliable weapon that is easy to shoot. The only down side is that some of the ladies have trouble holding it in their hand. We'll fear no more her comes the G21SF.

Upon first inspection I thought that the Glock 21SF was BS. I have carried the Sig 226 for 7 years and the G21 for another 11 years. I do not have a problem with the G21's size so when I first picked it up the SF I thought that there was no real change. Then I held them both back to back. Yes the 21SF has a much smaller grip. Can't wait to shoot it.

JJ.

Does it take the same magazines as the regular 21 model or did they also "downsize" in the change?

It takes 13 rd mags but they are diffrernt due to the ambi mag relaese on the 21 SF.New mags will work in the old guns but old mags won't work in the 21 SF.I wonder if the old mag relase will work in the new gun? That would fix the mag interchangibilty problem.

I have the 21 and 21SF side by side on the shelf. Virtually everyone who handles them says the same thing, myself included..."I can't really tell the difference."

To me, the rail looks like it was super-glued on as an afterthought.

I haven't shot a 21 in years since I carried one on duty in the mid-90s. Very reliable gun unless it was cold outside. When it got cold (a frequent occurance in CO in winter) the gun wouldn't cycle reliably...gun oil, syn oil, no oil, light grease...didn't matter.

Swapped for a G22 and no problems. Carried it for years without a hitch. But I never liked the way they felt in my hand.

When a customer is looking for a full-size polymer .45, I'll lay out the Glock, XD and M&P. Lately, the Glock is ALWAYS set aside first while the customer tries to decide between the 13+1 capacity of the XD vs the grip interchangeability of the M&P. At my place anyway, the M&P seems to be winning out more and more. However, more people come in and specifically ask for a G21 over the others and don't want to look at anything else or haven't heard of the alternatives.

Bottom line...they're all very popular.

I'm currently weighing that very choice, G21SF, XD45, M&P, Taurus, or the full size Kahr .45. The Glocks all shoot very good for me, the 20 is the only one I didn't care for. I like the 37, but I have a 1911, and don't want to have to change over the dies all the time. (or buy two sets of dies.) I like the feel of the XD45, and shoot the .40 OK, But I've only handled an M&P in .40, not yet shot one. I haven't even seen a Taurus or Kahr personally yet, I'm intrigued enough to hold off until I do.

Glock is making 3 version of the 21SF.

21SF w/Picatinny rail and ambi mag-catch.
21SF w/Glock rail and ambi mag-catch.
21SF w/Glock rail and standard (old style) mag catch. (We haven't seen these yet).

I work at VA Arms Co (Manassas, VA) and we got a shipment of Glock 20 mags yesterday and they all have the ambi mag catch notch just like the 21SF mags. Glock won't confirm nor deny that they'll be making a 20SF.

Let's just say that my 98% standard OD Glock 20 w/Trijicons is going on consignment today! ;)

I had an opportunity to hande the 21SF today. For all intents and purposes, it didn't feel any different than the Glock 21 I carried as a duty weapon for so many years. Compared side by side, the SF grip was about a quarter inch smaller front to back. Personally I wouldn't spend extra money for the difference.

welcome to THR!

first off i am not alady, but i disagree with this comment.

i believe that the xd takes the cake on polymer double stack .45s have you handeled one? i am not a lady but at the same time i have small hands and it is hard for mr to get a good hold on the glocks of any size especially the .45 acp models. the xd .45 in my personal opinion is the king in that regard, smaller dimensions easier to get a hold of and most defently easier to shoot.

i as well can not tell a difference in the two. the 21sf and the 21

I have to agree that the Glocks are the AKs of combat handguns. The other "would be" pistols haven't been around long enough to challenge that title. Funny how when someone asks a question about a specific gun, lots of us start reccomending another brand or type of gun. I own examples of most platforms available to the public. They all have their merit. There is NO one platform that is the best solution to all problems. We all have our favorites, but it's sad when a gun owner becomes brand fixated to the point where he thinks his choice of weapon is the only logical one, and everyone else has made the wrong choice. This usually occurs with younger, less experienced shooters who believe everything they read. I encourage all shooters to try different brands and platforms. I think all of us could appreciate the differences. No matter what you get, XD/M&P/24-7/P-99/KPD/TLE/CDP/STP/123, or any of the other "Tatical" pistols as they are so fond of calling them. Point is, if you don't try as many types as possible, you're missing a lot!!! Rant over!!!:)

G21sf ---- Oh No!

I bought a 21SF and hated the looks of it with the stupid rail under the dust cover.

WHY shooters ( and gun companies !) think they need these damned things is beyond me since you will likely never have something hung on your gun when you really need it.

Be that as it may, I got a holster for the 21SF and decided to leave my H&K P2000 at the house. Put the Glock in the paddle holster and went to work.

I am sorry, Mr. Glock. I said and thought some awful things about your new G21SF when it carries, rides in the holster and shoots better than anything I own.

It is a pure joy to have the 21SF on your hip with 1`4 rounds of 230 grn ammo at hand.

The weapon just looks like "business" and that ma stop a fight too.

If not, those big old bullets will settle the score fast.

I love this one.

JJ, first welcome to THR.

I'm not a lady either, but like possum, even the G21 SF doesn't do it for me. I've handled them and they're still too big for my short & fat fingers. I like the feel of the XD45, and the new S&W M&P 45 - even with "only" 10 rounds - is really growing on me. FN's new FNP 45 should really make things interesting.

In the end the new 21 SF is definetly an improvement on the G21, and adds a great entry into the realm of 45 ACP service pistols.

I like this guy jj, You speak the truth brother. I myself am waiting to get a 21sf and can not wait. My buddy's xd does not do it for me either. It feels so cheap and has had so many problems. I had an xd for about 2 weeks and all it did was sit in my safe. I decided to trade it for something else. At least i will have my new Glock soon.

The difference between the G21 and G21SF is mostly in the palm swell, not the width. If you have big hands it doesn't make a difference. If you have medium hands, you will like the G21SF much better. If you have small hands both are awfully large.

The XD is a fine firearm, but I prefer the G21/G21SF. I have owned both but have recently gone back to the regular G21 because of magazine interchangability and the ability to find holsters for it and, honestly, I'm partial to the big palm swell. It forces me to choke up on the grip and I notice that makes me shoot straighter. Personal preference.

What's with the defense against the "ladies" crack? Yeesh.

I agree, JJ. Rock 'N Roll.

i carry 21sf's on both sides all the time. 3:00 and 9:00 . they both ride with the "clipdraw" it's great. you can't loose them if your wrestling with someone or j8umping a fence chasing someone. i consider the second 21sf a new york reload. all the mags live in my nightstand. once i settle down for the night i attach my m6x to one. a glock is the only sd handgun i trust. by the way, the safe-t-blok rides along in both guns and i have practiced and timed my self at least 100 times. there is NO time lost ejecting the safe-t-blok. your finger isd right there. it is a system i won't chan ge no matter what i read you guys say you use. to me thats something because i learned almost all the technical sttuff i know from you knowledgable fellows on these sites. mainly thr. i could never leave my house with a xd or m&p, nevertheless anything smaller than a .45 it's a lightning fast system i have constructed and come to swear by. if only glock would get rid of these damm finger grooves...but i have gotten past that too. the 21sf is an awsome gun. no other is as durable. we all know that. we'll have to see how these new tupperware guns hold up in 10 years... glocks have proven themselves over and over. that is why a glock fills the holsters of over 68% of all cops in the nation. just bought a fnp-45. not sure i will keep it but it's worth checking out. fnp is left out of these conversations all to often. i won't be surprised if thier 45 turns out to be very reliable and durable. but with all those controls, it's no carry gun. i think i said too much but i don't butt in these threads so much so i'm making up for lost time. try a clipdraw, you'll like what it does.

Whoa there cowboy!:p Because what if you're being rushed from both sides, right?:uhoh:

I just got a G21 3rd Gen. and I like it; I had shot my Dad's G21 he bought when they first came out (his duty gun was a G17, off duty was a G19) and I liked it better than the G20 he also bought. I've never liked the looks of the Glocks, still don't , but I can shoot them well, they are boringly reliable and accurate, and that's what counts. :) I might have to look into a G30 in the future, if Wi ever gets out of the Socialist, er Stone age of CCW.

Clip draw, do you carry chamber loaded?

I've never felt comfortable with a Glock in my pants without a proper holster.
