Glock 21 grip reduction

I was at my dealers store yesterday and looked at a Glock 21. I commented to the dealer that the gun "felt good" but that the grip was too big. He mentioned that some people are reducing the grip size - apparently they remove that empty space in on the rear of the grip. Anyone know anything about this? Who is doing it? How much does it cost? Anyone had it done and like/dislike it?

I did my G-36 myself and while not as "pretty" as Robar's work, it fits my hand like a 1911 with thin grips. I used Brownell's glass bedding compound after protecting the "works" with kid's Play-Doh. It took about six hours of work (not including the 24 hours to let the bedding cure) and because it left a little to be desired cosmetically and was a little slippery, I added a sleeve cut from a 1-3/4" bicycle inner tube to give me a non-slip grip texture. This is my everyday carry piece and I'm really happy with the way it turned out.

Brownell's website has a detailed tutorial with pictures that you can download. I'm an amateur gunsmith at best and if I can do it, most guys with minimal mechanical/artistic/tinkering skills can do it. Go easy, think before you cut and have fun. Projects like this are rewarding as hell.

After firing the 21, my first reaction was to take a dremel tool to the first finger groove, it was to small my middle finger, it would pinch it. I would imagine since it is plastic, it wouldn't be to hard to grind the back of the grip off

G21 fits me just fine. there's a difference between holding it when just fondling it versus holding it when firing. you won't notice it's too big but you'll notice the soft recoil on the G21.

Mr. gudel, tells it straight. The 21 is not to big. I have medium size hands and have absolutly no problem accurately firing mine. It is one of my ccw's and carry it most of the time. Just to pick it up, it feels awkward but grab a hold of it to fire it and you'll grateful for a handle. Actually the 21 is a great big pussy cat. Feels like a .357 loaded with .38 spls. P.T.

This looks good to me. I don't like the look of the Robar, ARS or Lone Wolf/Frank Duren grip reductions.

But he said in response to a recent question that he does them differently now and has no pictures of the new way, so I'm not sure if it differs cosmetically or if it's just another way to get to the same place.

Makes sense to me to spend a little range time with the G21, rather than immediately going to a grip reduction. I'm not saying that there aren't girly men out there, but even they can learn to shoot a G21!

My local 'smith did a grip reduction on my G21 (which included a brass Seattle Slug) and it is now the best handling Glock I own. He also charged significantly less than the Robar guys and IMHO it's a much better job. E-mail me for his name and phone #.

These folks do grip reductions and refinishing too. I saw a write up on them in American Handgunner. The results were some of the best I've seen done on Glocks. I have plans to send mine to them eventually.

That is the "nicest" glock reduction I've seen. My one criticism of my G21 was that it felt almost too large to comfortable shoot. I'll admit I probably didn't shoot it very much to get used to it, but I like with Lauer did on that G21.

That is the best one I've seen earl_simmons. Congrats.
I did one on my first Glock, a G-34 and it looked like crapola. I've learned over the years that it's best to change the shape of your hand, not the pistol.
Love my G-20, getting a G-21!

If Glock was smart enough to use metal mags in the 1st place they could have done their own "grip reduction"!
