Hi all,

I'm a big fan of the Glock 21, which is should not be a surprise as there's nothing small about the 21. :)

Onto the main point, a friend gave me a Glock lapel pin that he picked up at SHOT 07. On this pin are the words "Glock 21 SF" under the pistol icon.

The question is *** is an 21 SF?

Thanks,

This gun is going to be awesome and will give alot of other .45's a run for there money. I am glad Glock answered the people's need's and has came out with this gun.
Hopefully we will see it soon on the market. I bet alot of leo are going to be getting these gun's as issued weapon's.

the 21 sf is a neat idea and it might be cool and i might even check it out, but i still believe that sa will have the polymer .45 market.

My understanding is that it has a slimmer frame, and can be had with or without the light rail. There may also be two different types of light rails. It also comes with a mag release button on both sides of the frame which, I believe, means it takes a different kind of magazine than the regular 21. It does indeed soudn like a great pistol. Even though I have big hands, I have always felt that the 21 was a little too wide.

I had a Glock 21 once....really liked the gun, it was just too large for my smallish hands. Told myself that if they ever came out with a slimmer full size, I'd buy one. Guess it's coming soon. Is this going to be single or double stack? I wish they would produce a single stack .45 full size.

I was there, I handled the G21SF. It is JUST enough smaller in the butt to tell... if I have a regular G21 to compare directly. Not enough smaller to seel me one.

American enthusiasts would buy a full size single stack .45 but Gaston knows better.

I see it (the G21SF) as Glock wants a piece of the lucrative pie that SA has been and is still enjoying right now with their very successful XD45ACP line-up. Glock knows perfectly well that SA's XD45ACP 4" service model and XD45ACP 5" tactical model are pulling in LE sells and they want in on it. I can't say I blame them one bit, I would do the same thing if I was in their shoes. I just wish they would also follow up with a single stack .45ACP model, like may have said, that is basically a G36 with a 4.5"-5" barrel and a longer full size grip (maybe 8+1 or 9+1 capacity). They could make it that the G36 could accept the longer mags as well (this would also help the sales of the G36 while their at it).

Not to start an argument, but who are these law enforcement agencies buying the XDs? I am not in that line of work any longer but do try to keep up with the latest developments and I have not heard of a single law enforcement officer or agency buying or using the XDs. As a matter of fact, most consider it a second rate sidearm and to be yet another Glock knock-off. The reason I ask is that I have seen this claim before but yet, no one seems to know who these cops are using XDs. I don't personally know enough about them (XDs) to have an opinion on whether or not they deserve consideration as a valid duty weapon choice.

Reality is, no matter how much some don't want it to be true, that Glock dominates the American law enforcement market. The figure of 65-75% is right on. I base this on personal observations instructing recruits at a law enforcement academy in addition to training police officers at several departments.

If some sort of research project was conducted, I believe it would show Glock as being the most used sidearm, followed by Sig Sauer and perhaps Heckler und Koch. The Beretta is also still in wide use, as are Smith & Wessons in many Sheriff's offices due to some sort of "buy American" deal or agreement that many elected sheriffs have entered into.

In addition to being a great choice for law enforcement use, Glock offers a quality product at a much lower price than the other companies. Many a young (or old I suppose) recruit will pick a $400 Glock over a $600-800 Sig or H&K most of the time for no other reason than economics. If those other companies were to offer deep discounts to LE, they would probably pick up more of the market.

Anyway, I am off my soap box.

universal, You might be right. I just assumed that was SA's target audience with their 4" and 5" XD45ACP line-up. I have diffiantly heard of lots of private citizen sales happening for SA with their XD45ACP line-up. Your pretty much correct about Glock having a big piece of the LE market, with Sig and H&K behind them. I heard that S&W is pushing their M&P .40 pistols towards LEs (not sure what LE orgs are adopting them yet). Sounds like you done your homework on the LE sales demographics. Like I said, I was basically just making an assumation that SA was marketing the XD45 towards LE orgs, as well towards private citizens. I stand corrected. Sorry about that.:)

AZ,

No need to apologize. I, too, have heard that the SA XDs are selling well. However, I have yet to see them in the hands of LE. I will be interested in seeing how S&W fare with the M&P series of pistols. My prediction is that they will not catch Glock, since the M&P is also seen as a Glock clone at the moment.

14 replies and no one answered the original question ! :neener:

"SF" stands for short frame. Glock has redone the G21 frame to be more user friendly towards those with medium to small hands.

Universal, I have personally seen some XDs in some hands of individual LE personel, but it isnt a norm by any means. Those who bought them liked the "1911 style" grip angle. Im happy with my old trusty glock myself!

I cant wait to see the 21SF !

The Statistics on Glock carrying officer's nationwide last I heard and had researched about a year ago was that Glock had 75% of the Law Enforcement business. In fact, it was just announced not too long ago that Georgia State Troopers were in the process of replacing their old glocks with new Glock 45 GAP for all of their troopers. Not to mention that the New York State Police is also re evaluating their current Glock .40 to replace them with the Glock 45 GAP. I know here in the midwest where I work Glock is the preferred law enforcement weapon. I would say that in Iowa and Nebraska Glock is carrying 90% of the LE business. You just can't beat the prices especially when you get them at deep discounts from OMB.
