I have a Glock 22 Gen One and after only a few thousand rounds, the slide is showing some bad peening. Its battered right below the Chamber opening on BOTH sides of the rails.

I talked to Glock and they say its NORMAL? But I just sent it in to them to check it under Waranty.

It only cost $32 to ship Next Day FedEx fully insured, and Glock asured me they will take care of it and do a FREE Re-Furbish.

My question is, has anyone had this problem with a GLOCK? How About a model 22 in General?

Thanks!

It really is normal.

You could have posted here first and saved yourself shipping. It happens to most of them. Some worse than others, but it's pretty universal.

Every Glock I've ever owned has done this to one degree or another. Yes, normal. Good luck.

Sure, it's normal, but Glock has redesigned the locking block, so that peening won't be so "normal."

Glock .40's are undersprung. The use of a 22# recoil spring will mitigate peening. Sending the Glock back to Glock/Smyrna won't change the peening propensity, but it will get new springs.

Doesn't have anything to do with the 40S&W version. ALL Glocks get these "peen" marks regardless of model or calilber.

Peening?

Talked to Glock today, A REAL nice guy named Fred in the Waranty Div. and he said their top top GUY has it in his hands.

Here is the list he faxed to me.

Replaced Locking Block, Mag. Catch. One Ten Round Mag, (mine was bulged from years of loaded storage) Trigger Bar, Firing Pin. Firing Safety And Cleaned, Slide dressed, And Cleaned, Meets All Factory Specs, Tested OK.

And he stated it would be returned in in a New Style Glock box since I shipped it without one, because I didn't want my OEM box lost or mis-placed at the Factory.

So, for $32 I get a newly Re-Furbished Gun and A New Box along with a re-placement mag.

A Heck Of A Deal!

And it will be sent out on Tues, sent Overnite UPS at NO CHARGE!

I'm Very PLEASED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Typical Glock Smyrna customer service. They love to give their customers free stuff and good service whether civilian, LEO, or military. ;)

Glock has absolutly the Best customer service. They are top notch people.

I love all Guns, but I carry a Glock.

I got this peening on my G22 as well. There's some in the G21, G17 and G32. but ones in G21 and G17 are a lot less than the ones in G22/G32.
They all work, dimpled or not.

Mine Was or is WAY more than just Dimpled! I have a Glock 17 with twice maybe three times the rounds through it and it barely has a blemish. Yeah, I know a .40 has more umgh, but it looked BAD. So we'll see when it arrives on Tues.

A good Friend stated he now has all his Glock Slides HARD CHROMED and its for this reason. That sounds a little over board, but to each his own?

And this is only my Second dealings with Glock Directly, The first time was 4-5 years ago and I was also VERY PLEASED with my dealings then.

Its BACK!

My Glock arrived today and they DIDN'T replace the slide, it was dressed and even looked like they Cold Bluded the repaired area.

But It looks GREAT! And feels like the slide was tightened? It just feels tighter on the frame, but that maybe from the New Locking Block and other Parts?

It does look good though.

But they removed my 3.5# Connector and must have replaced it with a 5#! But they sent my 3.5# Connector back with it.

And it was shipped back in a NEW Style Box complete with Brush, Cleaning Rod and Owners Manual! And even put in a Lapel Pin! Wasn't that SWEET?

But I'm Happy! A GREAT $32 and very very well spent!

But now its off to Fords Custom Gun Refinishers! I'm having the Slide done in BRIGHT Chrome on two sides with the top part of the slide done in Matt.

PIMP MY GLOCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It NEVER ENDS!

On the issue of the 22lbs spring. All my friends have a G23 in their lineup. As do I. Several went with a 22lbs spring per various forum information and have hand zero peening from the get-go. Myself and one other left things stock and experienced mild peening as described right between the 300-500 round mark. It has stayed the same since, I have since gone with the 22lbs spring and steel rod for piece of mind as well. Not sure what exact difference it will make at this point though.

My properly-sprung Glocks (none in .40) don't peen. Any authoritative-sounding guesses on that?

well this convinces me that i will not be purchasing a glock no mater how good others say they are to my way of thinking this is a safety issue and not somthing i am willing to risk my life on. i know its personell choice and i will never put sombody down for thier choice but polimer just isnt for this little green gremlin.

to my way of thinking this is a safety issue
That's a difficult position to defend with facts. I've never heard of any safety issues related to peening, nor even heard anyone hint that there MIGHT be safety issues related to peening.

It bothers some people, and that's fine by me--and plenty reason not to buy a Glock if it does. But it's not a safety issue by any stretch of the imagination.

Slide Peening?

I NEVER felt it was a Safety Issue, but more of a service issue, I've sent several revolvers back to S&W because of Flame Cutting on the Top Strap, and feel its about the same. S&W said the same as Glock, it will do it a bit, then stop.

But NEVER A Safety Issue?
