The 23, being mid-sized, can be concealed better and still is a full sized duty pistol. Having 14 rounds of .40 (or .357 Sig if you get a Glock OEM .357 Sig barrel) is pleny of both power and firepower. Plus the FBI is happy with it.
Yes the 19 is a great gun to, but a 23 will allow you to have 4 in one guns. .40, .357 Sig, 9mm (with Lone-wolf 9mm barrel), and .22 (with AACK .22 unit.)
Just my opinion:
Between the G22 and the G23, I would choose the G22. I carried a G22 as a duty weapon for almost 3 years and would prefer it for duty use and carry. I have owned two G23s and they are excellent pistols, I just prefer a full size pistol for carry, and the snappy recoil from the 40 cal in the compact frame sometimes became a problem(for me).
I am not a huge fan of the 40cal cartridge. Nothing wrong with it and if that's all I have , I will use it. I will normally go with a 45acp or a 9mm before I take a 40.
The G17/G19 is a different breed compared to the G22/G23(IMO). My current off duty weapon is a G17 and I normally will throw my G19 in my bag to have as a backup gun to the G17. The G19 is a fine all around pistol. It seems to get more attention than the G23. The Police supply shop that I get my Glocks from say that they sell three G19s to every G23 that they sell. It is small enough to conceal well, yet large enough for "service". It has a healthy 15 round capacity and is accurate.
It mostly is a personal preference between the two. Shooting the two models to compare their handling and performance would be the best way to distinguish which one is best for you.
I have a 23 that's my baby my feeling is that if you are going to go 23 might s well just go All the way to the 6" 24. That is what is on my shopping list s a new open carry gun
I don't currently own a G23, but I find the G22 easily concealable for my needs, and with plenty of firepower, weight, and grip length for comfortable shooting and recoil control.
23 was the first Glock I seriously considered - the dimensions & the caliber called to me. Never did end up getting it. Still haven't written off the 19, though.
After looking at about a million weapons that might fit the needs I want this current buy for.....I picked my first Glock, a G23sf.
I want it for a woods gun to take hiking and packing in a scabbard holster, HD duty, a SHTF battle side arm and a range plinker.....after much time going over and over the choices I feel the Glock 23 is a perfect fit the G22 wasn't worth the 2 extra rounds(when this can easily be added to the 23) for its extra size and bulk. I'm going to pick it up tonight.
I use a Kahr CW9 as an EDC
