Glock 23 Gen 4 issue

New to pistols. I owned a Stoeger Cougar briefly, after a run in with an intruder at my father's vacant house decided to go to a glock for the simplicity of no safety/decocker. I've only put a couple hundred rounds thru it, but noticed that beyond close shots, i'm hitting high. At 25 yrds, it's a good 10" or more. At 50 yrds, i have to aim a foot low to hit. I'm shooting 165 cheapo winchesters or Fed 180 gr. I'm assuming i can change the front blade to a taller one, but won't this screw up my close shots? I love everything about this gun, but am aslo digging the XDMs that i've handled. Starting to have evil thoughts about switching pistols, but would like to see this thru.

Are your groups consistent?

Considering you are new to pistols, I am guessing that the Glock is not causing the problem, it is most likely user-induced.

Just one last quick question, what sight picture are you using?

I'm putting target on top of sights. I had another fellow at the range fire it, he noticed the same. Not trashing glocks as i really like it, just want to figure it out.

I think the groups were ok, just high.

Grip angle is different on Glocks. Not uncommon for new Glock shooters to shoot high when transitioning from a different pistol platform, at least at first.

*Remember to lock your wrist. G23 recoil can be quite snappy.
*Try shooting a bit closer like 10-12 yards and use a smaller target center (aiming point). Most pistol encounters are this close.
*Practice some more and try some hotter defensive ammo.
*If you are still hitting high, you can get a lower rear sight (or an adjustable one).

I would try all these first before I would trade off the G23.

If the "El Cheapo" stuff is lower velocity, it'll strike higher than expected if the gun were sighted in with higher velocity stuff.

Aside from the other excellent suggestions, you might want to shoot some higher velocity stuff and see what happens.

A couple of things to try....Get some good ammo and see if things change. Take the slide off and make sure there is no trash in the locking lug of the barrel or on the locking block in the frame. See if the barrel is marking all the way across the under side of the block. I've seen trash get in there just enough for the gun to lock up but cant the barrel up just slightly to make it shoot high. Not a very common thing but it can happen if you don't keep it cleaned properly. Try shooting at 10 and 15 yds. and see what it does.

1st target 10-15', mid target 10 yrds, last at 25 yrds and compensating. Oh yes, the last target also hit with a very nice 9mm someone let me shoot. Got to see what a very nice trigger will do with the 9mm.
