I already have a Glock 26. Which should I get next, a G17 or G19?

The next one will also be used for some target shooting.

I like the reliability record of the G17 but I also like the compactness of the G19. The G26 will be used for backup purposes.

In retrospect, the G19 would be a better carry pistol and the G17 would be a better overall pistol.

Which one after the G26, the G17 or G19?

Thanks

If U have a G26 and use it for carry, the G19 is not different enough, IMHO. You can put a 17 round mag in that 26 and have the full ammo capacity in that G26.

If I were you, I'd go to the other end of the spectrum and get a Glock 34. You would be amazed at how well it shoots.

I have a 26 for carry, and like was said above, I'd get the most different version that fits your hand.

If the full size 9mm frame fit my hand, i'd be looking for a 17L or 34. Since it doesn't and the 19 fits perfectly, i'm shopping for a G19.

Gonna agree that if you're satisfied with your 26 for carry, there is no reason not to get the 34. I think you'd have blast with it at the range, and it'd make a good house gun. The 19 would be a little redundant, for sure.

I disagree....If you carry the 26 daily for defensive purposes then a 19 would make more sense if for no other reason then you can use it to back your 26 up should (God forbid) anything ever go wrong with it or it goes to the smith or factory for upgrades etc. I believe in doubling up on defensive handguns.

I own a Glock 34 and two Glock 26 pistols if that makes your choice even more confusing,,,,,

I would go with a Glock 22 in .40S&W, hay, you asked. if you are set on the 9mm then I would go with the G17. If your a big guy, like me you can carry a full size with no problem. How do you like your G26? I have a G27 and LOVE the gun, It's perfect for carry. I think the next glock I'm going to get is the G36 single stack .45 acp. I had one one time and liked it real well, wish I had it back. Good luck with what ever you choose, and let us know your out come.

G17, 19, 26---all the same caliber. Try something different! My first was the G21. Got used to carrying it and started thinking about back-up or smaller primary so I am trying out a G27.

Thanks for the input guys.

Was considering a G21 because its a 45 caliber but decided on maintaining magazine and ammo compatibility. Actually I have a BHP MkIIIs and an HK USP9 which I will be disposing with because I don't like having to keep different sets of magazines as spares anymore.

Since I have satisfied w/ my G26, I decided I should probably go to a G17 or G19 and have the G26 as a backup.

I don't understand the issue of hand fitting between the G17 and G19. Don't they have the same basic dimensions?

My concern was that G19 would be easier to carry concealed rather than the G17. I'm about 5'7" so the G17 might be harder to carry concealed.

I carry my G26 with a 10+2 magazine and carry 2 17+2 magazines as spares. Have put in a 3.5 disconnector and plan to replace the sights w/ Mepro's.

Am also considering replacing the trigger w/ the smooth faced version like the one on a G17. Other than that I can't think of anything else that Glocks need. I would suggest that other models be slide radiused like the G26 for easier holstering.

Didn't consider the G34. Will look into it but it would disrupt my plan for primary and backup carry. Maybe I will consider it after I get a G19 and sell my BHP and HK USP9.

Since you have the 26, I suggest the 34 over the 17 for a primary. The 34 is about the same size as a 1911. I own a 19 and am more than happy with it.

Actually the 17, 19 and 26 grips are not just different in length.

The grips are actually different shapes, and you may find one fits your hand best. The little bump in the backstrap is lowest on the 17, highest on the 26.

I find the bumps position actually fits my hand best on the 26. Try to find someone that owns both a 17/22 and a 19/23 so you can compare the grips. I bet you'll find one is more comfortable. (The 17L and 34 have the same grip shape as the 17.) I have a 17 and a 26 and like them both, though the 26 feels better.

It sure is tempting to just have all 3 :banghead:

But reality aside I would probably stick to just a pair for primary and backup purposes.

Thanks.
