I was told this today by a guy in the local gun shop. He said he prefered the Glock 19 to the 17 because the G17 was a quote "cannon" and the G19 was a more concealable gun. Now I don't know where he got this logic from the size differance between a G17/G19 is so minimal its funny.

I've owened all 3 Glock 9mm's before the 34 came out ofcourse. And the size differance is about a half inch off the barrel and about a quater inch off the bottom of the grip of the G19. I currently own the g17 and g26 I sold the g19 over the g17 I like the g17 better.

I realize everyone has his/her own opinion but to say the g17 is a cannon is a stupid thing to say so do any of you here feel the g19 is a better more concealable gun then the g17? If not why do you prefer the g17?

Don't have the actual measurements at hand, and I don't own a G17 to measure. The 19 is about 3/4 to an inch shorter in length, and two rounds shorter in the handle height. Width is exactly the same. The G19 IS slightly easier to conceal. No idea of how much lighter the 19 is--Less steel in the slide-- has to be a little lighter.

Best,
Johnny

The G17 is actually almost a compact service sized 9mm. That said, the G19 is much easier to conceal, and upon emergencies, it can be pocketed. I have done it. But all of that is easy for me, because, I own both models. Great pistols.

I find that I can conceal my G19's just a "wee" bit better than my G17..

My problem is that I use +2's on my G19's, which makes there dimensions nearly the same as that of the G17..

So, in my case, it's probably a psychological thing more than anything else.:D

As far as the G17 being a "cannon", that guy at the gun shop is full of B.S. Now, a .454 Casull, that's a "cannon"..:D

I have both frames. I am more comfortable with the 19 then 17th. Heck I would LOVE if the frame was not as wide. Even .2" would help.

I've got a 17 and a 26, and I just bought a 32, and they are all concealable with the right gear, that guy is just doing the "I work in a gunstore so I know everything" routine.....tom

I have a brand new G17 3rd gen, and can say that it is quite easy to conceal, due to the fact that the frame is realy thin, especially compared to other full-size service pistols like the beretta or the Browning HP. it's not the length and height of the pistol that realymatters in CCW, it's the WIDTH.

the G17 has a few advantages on the G19: it has a higher mag cap, longer sight radius which makes it more accurate, longer barrel which gives the bullet more energy and velocity, the G17 is the original, and let's not forget you get MORE GUN for the same price :neener:

I'll take the G17 over the G19 anyday, anytime :D

Shop guy made giant overstatement.

Here's a face to face comparison:

The logic.. the g19 and g17 are the same shape gun with the same width. The g19 is shorter in the slide and the grip.. this translates into greater concealability. The same logic applies
to the g19 and the g26.

I figure what you are saying is that the g17 is also concealable and not a 'cannon', well that depends on you however- the built of your body, how you dress, your lifestyle and how frequently you want to carry. For some people the g17 appears as big as a 'cannon' whilst for others its a 'mouse' gun. Maybe if you take these factors in consideration then you would understand why the store personnel expressed this/his opinion.

That said I can conceal a g17 very well but I would take the g19 everytime over it as a concealed weapon..I can even ankle carry my g19- a 18-shot ankle carry gun at 22 ozs- absolutely fantastic!!:D
