What are your opinions of the Glock 30? Accuracy, reliability, recoil management?

I usually carry a 1911 but I am fixing to sell it in order to get something easier to carry. I enjoy the .45 round and currently have plenty of ammo in that caliber.

I have also been looking at a G23 because I am also a fan of the .40, but I have heard some negatives on the accuracy of the Glock .40's. But being able to stick with the .45 and get a smaller package plus increased capacity seems like a win-win.

LOVE it. When I think of big caliber in small gun, the G30 springs to mind first. NEVER had a jam with mine except ONE limpwrist jam a girlfriend had (I've since gotten a new a G30, AND a new girlfriend), ate FMJ and jhp the same, althought I only ever tried WWB. Very manageable recoil, all things considered. If you get one, do yourself a favor and get a grip plug for it, I like the Lone Wolf ones.

I think the subcompact .40s would actually be more of a bear to shoot than the .45

If your hands are bigger, I'd avoid the streamline or 36 model and just get a bonafide g30. I actually liked the fat grip and blocky slide, it felt like an extension of my fist. I also preferred the 9 rd mags to the 10 rounder. Even with a round chambered, mag released and a round replaced in the mag it felt a little smoother going in and coming out than a full 10 rder.

I have a 30SF and, after initial problems, it's been reliable and accurate (well, it's always been accurate). Recoil is not bad. It has a very beefy slide. If you carried your 1911 inside the waist band, the 30 is going to feel bulky in comparison.

I have found nothing wrong with the accuracy of the .40 in my G27. The G27 was what I went to for a carry piece lighter than my Officer's ACP. It's been a great gun for me. That said, I still carry the OACP from time to time. I always enjoy shooting it and will never get rid of it.

I think that if you possibly can, hold on to your 1911 and get the G30 as well.
Me; I would miss my 1911s, but the G30 could stay or go without regret.
Same goes for my G27; the G30 would be long gone before I would even consider getting rid of it.

The G30 is a great gun, but they are fat and not the most comfortable to carry. They are unbelievably reliable, feed everything and recoil is minimal. Grip is important and I always had an issue with it, as I have small hands.

As much as I love the G30 and respect Glocks, I traded it in toward a 1911. Thinner is easier to carry for me.

Down the road I may get another Glock, but 1911s keep calling me back.

I had a gen. 2 Glock 30. Very nice gun and the second most accurate Glock I've shot (G-20). Recoil is easy. They don't work with plated SWC handloads, a big negative for me, but with ball shaped ammo, it was 100%.

If you want a Glock, want a .45 ACP round, and want a thin CCW, then you may want to check out the Glock 36 (Slimline). You lose mag capacity going from a double stack to single stack, but its as thin as a G19.

Trigger and I didn't get along.

G35 race gun, 15 yards, rainy, freezing day.

I'd own the G35 in a heartbeat. GREAT range gun, and, fairly slim.

Recoil is average. Keep in mind that loaded, the Glock 30 weighs 34 oz, and this really helps with recoil. However, as the mag empties, it gets down to 24 oz.

Recoil for the first round, 230 grain ball at 900 fps:
Recoil Energy of 8 foot pounds, and Recoil Velocity of 17 fps.

Recoil for the last round:
Recoil Energy of 10 foot pounds, and Recoil Velocity of 21 fps.

20% difference? Perhaps this effects shooting accuracy, combined with the
heavy 30 trigger.

Don't know why the range gun was so inaccurate, but, that same day guys were shooting one hole with 9mm and 40 Glocks, on the same indoor range.

What are your opinions of the Glock 30? Accuracy, reliability, recoil management?
I owned one in the early 2000s. Accuracy: very good. Reliability: fussy WRT bullet shape and magazines, but OK after everything was sorted out. Recoil management: very good. (The .45 Auto does not deserve its reputation as a hard-kicking cartridge.) My only real issue with it was its thickness - the wide slide made it less comfortable to carry IWB than a slimmer gun, and the grip was a little too wide for my hands.

I know I want one, they have a great reputation for accuracy, my 27 is one of my more accurate pistols, the subcompact Glocks are in my exalted opinion some of the best carry guns out there. I think I shoot a 27 better than a 23.

Thanks for the replies guys. Am i still trying to decide what I want to replace the 1911, and Glock was the first thing I thought when I thought small semi autos. I will be keeping one 1911 range gun but have to sell something in order to get a new carry gun. It's not going far though, as my dad is buying it:D.

The fact that I found a good price on a Ruger SP101 has not helped me decide on the new carry piece either. Decisions, decisions.

Great pistol! I use it for CCW along with my 36 and 1911's. It's a little thick, but not bad. Can't go wrong with this pistol.

I am a die hard 1911 fan. In most cases I am not a Glock fan.

Now, the G30 does have a well deserved rep as an accurate, dependable gun.

I wanted a smaller platform for the .45 and decided the G30 was the way to go. I have owned a G21 in the past and had no problems with the grip size. If it fits it is a great package.

My 1911 is better, but the G30 works when I need it.

Don't care for my Glock 30... Like my 23c though... The 30 is SO thick and stubby i just can't get a good grip on it and im 6'3" 250 with hands to match. Its recoil wasn't too bad but it did have some flip to it.

I got the 30 to be an IWB gun but its too fat for its own good IMO.
