Hello everyone, i recently asked what autos you all preferred and I was so happy at the responses I got from you all. Thank you all, it really helped.

My criteria was a non-1911 frame probably in 9mm for mostly range shooting, and while I was super impressed with the nearly legendary Sig 226 and the HK USP models, I was just at my local Gun store today for more research and held many models, but the Glock 34 felt good, seemed to have the right features at the right prices for me, but I know next to nothing about them other than they sometimes carry these nicknames frequently in posts, "simple" & "Glunck."

Can any of you shed some more light on the Glocks in general or how the 34 shoots paper compared to lets say a Sig 226, or the insanely beautiful (personal opinion based solely on its looks) H&K USP? Is there any bit of common knowledge about them (i.e. I found out today that it has a hammerless back end) I should know now while I am in the decision phase.

Thank you all in advance,
RFB

p.s. I still will be setting up some range time with them before making any final decisions.

I once had a Glock 34, essentially a Glock 17 with a longer slide and barrel. Also has a lighter trigger, adjustable sights and enlarged controls. Basically designed for competitors in practical gun games. Whether these extra features are worth the increased cost over a standard Glock is up to you, for a range gun they are nice. Like my G17 my G34 was 100% reliable.

As you indicated, you are going to do some range time with different pistols. Good idea, you need ti purchase the one that "feels" good to you. All the major handgun manufacturers make excellent pistols today. You should also try the Smith and Wesson Military and Police.

I use a G34 in IDPA and USPSA and it has worked very well for thousands of rounds over a lot of years. I carry a G26 or a G19 concealed so clearly I like my Glocks.

If this is your first hand gun or you haven't had a lot of experience or training with hand guns be aware that Glocks are very unforgiving when it comes to how they are treated. You absolutely must keep your finger off the trigger until you want it to go bang. Trust me, they will go bang everytime you pull the trigger.

You may want to rent or try out a G19. I think it is the best of the Glock 9mm line for a general purpose handgun. Still, if you get the G34 you'll end up happy.

Good shooting and stay safe.

I have a G35 with a 9mm conversion barrel. Both the .40S&W round and 9mm rounds are very accurate!

You can't go wrong with a 5.32" barrel.

Balance is great also.

I've trained, hit the range and shot the hell out of it.

Still runs smooth.

If I take my time, I'm relatively prettty accurate with my G34. Anything faster than 1 shot/second I'd be better off with a shotgun. The Glock trigger needs some time to get use to for me. (A bit too mushy for me.)

I agree, try them at the range before making your choice. I carry a G19 and have a 17 + 21. I use the 17 for IDPA with allowable modifications. Each pistol you mentioned is excellent and if they fit, you would be happy with either of them.

If you take a look at this link:http://glockfaq.com/

It will give you everything you ever wanted to know about a Glock and each model.

I got into the G34 because a few of my friends shoot them also. We're all copy cats of the best, cuz it's one hell of a firearm.

Very easy to shoot, nice long sight radius, modifiable trigger, short reset, low bore axis, and really easy to work on.

I love mine.

I bought a G34 on an impulse thinking I'd use it as a plinker at the range.Actually, I didn't think a Glock was going to be much of a target shooter. My initial experience with the gun led me to believe I'd gotten something exceptional and I went to work improving on it. I put in a tungsten recoil rod, a 20 lb. recoil spring and a Wolff spring kit as well as a stronger trigger spring. I did the ".25 trigger job" which is nothing more than taking it apart and polishing all metal surfaces that rub together. All of this was less than $75. The result? Out to 25 yards it is almost as good as my STI Trojan 6 inch 9mm and outshoots my CZ 75 SA. Don't go after one of the many aftermarket barrels on the market until you've tried the stock one. I've been really impressed and surprised.

One thing: Don't consider the above mods if you decide to use it as a carry gun. As Glocks go, the trigger on mine is "match quality" and works too easily for self defense weapon that has no other type of safety.

Hope this helps.

Pete

Any of the guns listed will be more accurate than you are. Theoretically the Glock would be the easiest to be shoot accurately due to the increased sight radius making it easier to aim.

I've shot all of them, but I own a P226 and have shot a G34 extensively. Personally I've always preferred the P226 because of it's feel, but I realize that's quite subjective. I can shoot my friends G34 just as accurately as my P226 if I take a little time to aim. I have problems in competition type settings with the Glock. This is mainly because I'm used to the DA/SA transition on my Sig, and have shot several thousand rounds through it. I find that I shoot high with the glock when in a hurry due to the sights (dot & trough vs. bar & dot) and the grip angle. I can shoot the Glock well, but still shoot my 226 faster on plate shooting type stuff.

Which one would I recommend? Either the Glock or the Sig. I have nothing against the H&K, just didn't like it as much as the other two. Which to choose? Shoot them both and decide which feels better. The Glock is certainly less expensive, but quality is equal I feel. Glocks are not junk, no matter which way you slice it, neither are Sigs or H&Ks. If you're going to do competition type stuff, the Glock would be easier to get started with as every shot will be the same, whereas with the Sig you have to start in DA and then change over to SA for all follow up shots. You can easily get used to it, but it adds another thing to learn.

I do love my Sig and desperately want more, but I also keep eyeing the Glock 19's and 34's. :D
