Glock 36 +p 230 gr ammo

You can fire all the +P ammo you wish to through your Glock 36. Unfortunately it will offer no improvement in terminal performance, or so little you\'d be hard pressed to find an ME who could tell the difference.

I load my G36 with the Hornady Self Defense ammo in 185gr. There is less kick vs the 230gr most definitely and will still do the job in stopping any zombie.

i've shot 230 gr standard pressure ball, handloaded +p ball and handloaded +p magtech hollowpoints. I definitely noticed an increase in the kick on the +p ball, not that bad with the magtech loaded rounds, though. The CPT who reloads for me said they had the same charge, though, so idk.

I only ask because I'm trying to pick my carry ammo and I wondered if the increase in recoil was worth the effects downrange.

No shooting 230 +P through it is unpleaseant.

Shooting it through a Glock 30 is not much fun either.

It shoot well in a Glock 21 though.

230 standard pressure is the ACP standard and has not failed generally in a long time.

9mm might need the extra horespower, maybe not, but the 45 sure doesn't seem to.

I see absolutely no reason to fire 45 +P unless you just want to. If you want more recoil get a S&W 40 caliber. I think the low pressure big bullet works pretty well. Of all the people I shoot with no one uses a +P round, but it's out there so someone does.

jehicks87, have you seen the findings shown in the links below? The closest on the results list to the G36 would probably be the Beretta 8045 Cougar with its 3.625" barrel. http://www.ballisticsbytheinch.com/45auto.html

More things to look into here. http://www.brassfetcher.com/index_files/Page1127.htm

Much more the type of input I was hoping for!

Holy cow, in a 3" barrel the +p 230 gr is moving 100 fps faster than the standard pressure! And in the Stoeger it's scooting at 150 fps faster than standard. Too cool. I can only imagine what Glock's rifling would do with that!

Awesome stuff, man. I'll stick with my +p loads!

Is this a joke, or a jab?

Why would I go to a smaller caliber, especially a snappy one like the .40? I'm not a recoil junkie, and this isn't a range gun.

I carry only 230 +P in my G36...it chrono's 850 fps, last I heard thats right where the 45acp does its best work with 230 grain bullets.

I carry Hornady TAP 230 +P...not because its the best money can buy (its not), but because I can go to the local gun shop and buy it anytime.

Winchester Ranger T 230 +P doesn't do so well out of short barrels and its hard to find most of the time...Cor-Bon can usually be found if you're willing to look for it, it is very good with short barrels....Federal Tactical 230 +P (not HST) is the BEST out of short barrels, but I only know of one place to get it...and its online.

Recoil...With the Cor-Bon LE ammo, recoil is pretty stout but not abusive.

With the Hornady ammo I carry, recoil is still stout....but not like the Cor-Bon (or Black Hills)

The G36 will eat 230 +P all day, every day...using +P brass and Power Pistol powder, some of my reloads offer downright impressive speed and power (approaching 1,000 fps)...the recoil of these loads is quite impressive as well.

EDITED TO ADD: I only fired 1 round of the TAP ammo through the chrono to get that 850 fps...I do need to do a 10-20 round string to get a better measurement, but it is sorta inline with what I expected, given that 6 grains of Unique will launch the same bullet (230 XTP) at 820 fps (20 round average)

+P does serve a purpose...in short barrels, especially short barrels with polygonal rifling.

I'm used to +P 45acp ammo, its pretty much all I've ever shot through my G36...when I do load up some standard pressure stuff it feels like I'm shooting a 9mm, but its no more accurate for me than +P.
