I purchased a Glock 36 several years ago. It fired fine for a while then started not feeding. I changed bullet style which seemed to take care of that problem. This past weekend went to our indoor range and it would lock open on each shot. checked out the slide stop lever which as staying up on each shot (spring quit working properly. I disassembled the frame, cleaned everything, looked for any interenence areas on mating parts, put it back together properly (the spring tail was below the top pin) and it seems to work but havn't tested it yet.
I ordered a new extended slice release lever from Glock yesterday and will install it when it comes. And no, I have a good solid grip on the pistol. I like the pistol but if this doesn't fix the problem, it definety is a finikey LEMON!!! DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY OTHER IDEAS? :banghead: e

Watch your thumbs. I never had the problem on my G30 but on the G36, I guess because of how slim it is, they will just barely get the slide in two hand holds. Do this, shoot it one handed with your thumb tucked. See if the problem persists. If it does, mag would be my next guess too.

Glock doesn't make an extended slide stop(release) for the G36. Glockmeister and LoneWolf make one that is a filed down extended slide stop for 9mm frames so that it will work in a G36. An unmodified one made by Glock likely will not work.

The slide stop spring should be under the top pin, as you said it is now positioned. If it's an extended slide stop that has not been fitted properly to work in a G36 that may be the reason it's locking back on every round. Another reason that may happen is that your hand is accidentally hitting the slide stop during recoil.

Here's an extended slide stop specifically fitted to work in a G36:

And another extended one specifically fitted to work in the G36:

All Glock .45ACP's have difficulty feeding wadcutters and semi-wadcutters. If your G36 has problems feeding FMJ or JHP, then there's something wrong.

Early on G36's had issues with failures to eject. There was never a definite cause that I heard of, but I only hear about it once a year or so now so the problem has largely been eliminated in recent production. Some people speculated that it was caused by the magazines, the angle at which the top round sits would cause the rim of the spent casing to get caught on the case mouth of the top round in the magazine. Other people speculated that the locking block rubbed against the slide during recoil too much. Whatever the cause was it seems to have been silently fixed by now.

My best shooting buddy had problems with his 36. Had a lot of Ftf's A LOT! He took the magezines apart and cleaned them with winchester clp and said it now functions fine. However its only been been 100 good rounds, so not sure if its going to be the say all and end all solution.

May or may not apply to your G36...but here are a few things I've noticed about mine.

1- It has never missed a beat.
2- The more I shoot it, the better I get with it...I can empty it (7 rounds) into the head of a human silhouette type target in less than 3 seconds from the holster or take out 3 different targets with double taps almost as fast, from 20-40 feet.
3- If there was ever any need for me to modify it in any way...that LAST thing I'd put on it is an extended slide release.

My advice to the OP...send it to Glock and let them go over it.

As I understood the OP, the slide stop lever was improperly installed, causing the gun to lock open after every shot. It has now been installed properly but he hasn't fired it yet and thinks the gun is a lemon.

I must be missing something that would make sense of all this.

Dave

I don't mean to be wise gluteus maximus but he has reloader in his screen name and the gun was purchased several years ago. Perhaps it's worn out from lots of shooting?

I recently got a G36 as well. I like it. The only thing it has hung up on is cast SWCs. Everything else runs through it like a top.

My particular G36 has a low round count, but has been flawless with FMJ and JHP in 200 grn and 230 grn. I haven't tried any other bullet types to know if those have issues or not.

I do know another G36 shooter from another forum and his G36 has bad FTF problems now that his gun has over an estimated 16,000 rounds through it.

I purchased my G-36 ca 6 years ago. It has run flawlessly with FMJ and JHP ammo of 185 to 230 gr. Years ago I expereinced a problem with a SIg 226 malfunctioning until it finally occured to me that the problem was the way I was gripping the gun with the thumb high. I corected my grip and the gun ran flawlessly.

Maybe I don't quite understand the problem.

If its any help to you, in my G36 mags, the 'paper cut' edge of the 200 H&G # 68 SWCs contact the forward edge of the mag tube during feeding. That sharp paper cut edge gets cliped a bit as it bumps over the front edge of the mag tube. That 'clip' makes for a stutter in the feed cycle.

Thats with my machine, my 68s, my mags, and my G36. Mileage varies.

Unless you just gotta shoot lead and need the SWC profile to score paper, maybe you might wqnt to consider a bullet profile kinda like the .45 Colt RNFP.

Just to add, my G36 will shoot a lead 230gr. TC bullet like a dream. First day I got it it gobbled up 100 over 4.5gr. Bullseye without a hitch.

My G36 was 100% reliable and fun to shoot. I highly recommend it as a sd weapon. I only went to xd .45 compact because I wanted more capacity.

I certainly hope my G36 will perform as well as those guys that have praised it here GMSSL36 Glockmeister Extended Slide Stop Lever G36 1.00 1.00 0.0
Here is the Extended Slide Stop I ordered from Glockmaster, so they do make one after all. Isn't that special. No I have not worn the gun out, I will let everyone know what happens when I receive the part, hopefully tomorrow. I do appreciate all the good advice. The gun does shot very accurately just gotta get the kinks out. thanks

I did receive the part today and it is installed update tomorrow thanks...Be safe

The new part arrived not sure if it was actually an extended slide release or not. I went to the range this weekend and it performed flawlessly with all sorts of bullet tyles. I had loaded some super plus P 155 gr Lee RNFP at about 1200 fps but did not fire any of those, they have more recoil than normal and may affect the slide release as the spring is not real stout. Perhaps Glock should think about altering the sping for a bit more sping action. Anyway, Im happy. Be Safe

The one I rented a few years ago certainly wasn't a "lemon." I have criticisms of (what I think are) its design oddities, but it actually performed very well with the 100 rounds I put through it.

I did that to my Sigma last time I was working on it. Misplaced (royally screwed up the re-assembly) the slide latch spring and it locked the slide open after every shot. About four shots before I retired it for the day. . .

Like I said, an extended "slice" release won't affect function or reliability any differently than a regular "slice" release will.

Sounds like he needed a new S-L-I-D-E release, regardless of whether it was an extended one or not.

This might sound like a dumb question, but what’s a third generation G36? For some reason
I thought the G36 was its own entity and I thought there were a lot more than three revisions. just asking?

Steve

By the way I like mine, it runs fine. Not 100% but certainly better than average?
