I can get a police trade in Glock 37 Gen 3 for $299.00 plus 10$ transfer fee. I have two 1911s in .45 so do I need a .45 GAP?
How is it to shoot, and reload? I am familiar with a Glock I have a 27 that I have fixed the trigger on and love shooting. So... just wanna know from someone who shoots a GAP and maybe reloads the GAP.

Nice shooter, easy to load. I say go for it. I regret letting My Dad's 37 get away from me. He sold it to a friend, and I loaded ammo for the friend for a while, and of course, shot it plenty. I had a G21 at the time, so I passed on the 37, and I still kick myself for it. :banghead:

I have heard mixed things about it. That's why I brought my questions here. Checked gunbroker for average prices on used 37s and 299 seems like a steal. I'm a 1911 guy for sure, but I like a Glock after a trigger replacement. So I'm leaning in the direction of getting it. Appreciate your insight

No, it's chambered for pointless .45 Glock Auto Pistol cartridge. Ammo is more expensive than .45ACP and difficult to find on local gun store shelves. It's hard to believe but several police forces adopted that caliber.

Go for it, the price sounds more than fair. You'll want to reload for the gun since ammo can be a little difficult to find. Make sure you share pics.

No. They are for sale cheap cause no one wants them. You will lose more $ in ammo than the $50-$100 you will save compared to a used Glock in 9, 40, or 45 ACP, or you will need to buy reloading stuff and shoot a whole bunch before that stuff will pay for itself and you start saving $. I would buy it for that price if it cam with a supply of ammo, then I would shoot some and keep it in my truck. Otherwise, why bother.

good price. i have one. i bought it for two reasons: first, everyone poo-poos 45 GAP as redundant (and there's probably some validity to that) so i was able to get a NIB 37 for 400 out the door, and secondly, since i have a couple of 1911s already and it was a cheap way to get into another caliber.
my plinking bullet is the nosler custom comp 185grain jhp
theyr'e fun to shoot out of both my glock and 1911s.
i easily achieve same or better velocity
starline brass is what i use now, but i originally bought a couple thousand once-fired stuff pretty cheap from a NY range where troopers qualified/practiced- at least at the time that was their issued sidearm
i don't think you'd be disappointed if you got it
if you spend a more you could get a glock in 45 acp
i have big hands so either one fits me well- that's one of the significant justifications behind its developement- same/similar ballistics to a 45 acp that was easier to handle for smaller hands
downside is that it is yet another caliber that doesn't really offer me (personally) anything different that 45 acp doesn't already offer- and honestly there's less load data and bullet varieties- and i follow conventional wisdom and don't shoot lead in glock barrels though i think the risk is low if one keeps a close eye on things- the point of all this rambling is that is that i have to sacrifice a little shelf space for GAP brass

on second thought, just get it, and if you don't like it you'd likely be able to recoup most if not all of your ante

There has to be a reason that you are getting it at such a cheap price. Glock 21s sell for about $550 all day. I would try to get the pistol for $250 out the door if at all possible as getting ammo might be pretty difficult.

Myself I would not get the gun if I plan on actually shooting it. If you want to fulfill having a "boutique" caliber, then go for it.

I don't know why I want it. Partly the "botique" caliber, part intrigue, partly that I recently discovered how easily one can modify a Glock. I am Active Duty Army and volunteer at the range on post. We have a vendor that provides LE trade ins at 30$ over cost. They are all factory reconditioned. At least that is the way I understand it. We have a whole list of Glocks available a few Sigs and some Bushmaster ARs.

Plenty of fans (and detractors) on Glocktalk. Jeff Cooper wasn't unfavorable towards the GAP. (at least it's a 45 or something like that)

Reload with ACP dies..

Oh man, you can get a factory reconditioned P226 9mm at $30 over cost and you are considering a GAP Glock?

Just (kinda) kidding, I'm sure they are great guns and the price is right, just have to handload.

The GAP made sense in theory, just not enough benefit in reality over good .40 SW loads to matter.

IMO, as they say, the 45 GAP was an answer to a question not asked. I see no good reason to own anything in 45 GAP especially if you already own one or more handguns in 45 ACP.

If you don't reload ammo is hard to find and expensive and always has been. If you can get a Glock 21 for a similar price I would do that. This way you have a common ammo with your other handguns. (Mostly because 45GAP is very hard to find.)

Coldfinger,
Since I sent you some brass, you gotta figure I reload for it. I have a 37 and what I like about it is the frame is the same size as the 17 or 22. I have small hands and the standard 21 is harder to get a good grip on, for me. Glock has the 21 Short Frame and that one is closer to the 17/22.

The 37 shoots well. The round is easy to reload for and as mentioned above uses the same dies, in most cases, as the 45 ACP.

Is there a "need" for it? It provided a 10 round double stack 45 in the same frame size as the 9 and 40. At the time it came out it made sense to some. Looking at it now with the other models available, who knows.

But, I like mine.
