considering retiring my H&K and getting a new carry gun. like both the Kimber solo and the G42. would like your input and thoughts

thanks

Between those I'd go with the Solo It's 9mm in a smaller package.. 380s can be had smaller and cheaper than the new glock.

I own and carry both. I've had the Solo for over 2 years and the 42 for about 3 months. I love both and have had no problems with them. I have strictly followed Kimber's ammo recommendations. The Solo is very tight/stiff if that matters to you. It really boils down to 2 things. Caliber choice and whether or not you want a thumb safety. I would buy both again and will buy a single stack 9mm if Glock builds one.

I am not a Kimber basher and I carry a 3" Ultra CDP that has been a flawless performer. The Solo works well with factory recommended ammo. As a RSO I see a lot of Solo's with feed problems which I attribute to incorrect ammo or operator error.

Many of the other smaller 380's will be far less ammo fussy. The Glock 42 is not a small gun, so if you want a gun that you will be practicing with a variety of ammo, or handloads, and them plan to drop in your pocket and have it disappear, neither of these two may fit what you are actually looking for.
As the owner of one of the ultra finicky ammo guns, a Seecamp .32, I buy factory ammo that will work every time in that firearm and actually shoot it very little.
My 2¢

I have not shot a Kimber Solo, but I can tell you that to me, my G42 is the softest shooting pistol I have ever had (aside from .22's), and has fired every brand I have fed it without any problems whatsoever.

Shot them all myself...between the two you mentioned for concealed carry I'd go with the Glock 42. Simple and soft shooting - reliable with most .380. Small and easy to carry with lots of accessories available.

VooDoo

Glock 42.

I own both Glocks and Kimbers, it would take one hell of a fixed up Kimber and a zillion rounds of defensive ammo to prove it's reliability before it can even be compared to the Glock.

And the Glock has easy to swap sights. Trigger upgrades should be along any minute now.

I also have not shot a Solo, but my experience with the G42 has been great!

My old joints get pretty sore when I'm shooting 9mm, but I have no problem with the little Glock and it has handled every brand of ammo without a single problem.

I will never again buy a kimber! If you want an expensive, pretty gun that will be used in a gift presentation box and never used, then go for it. Just dont bet your life on it.

My Solo eats my lead reloads like candy. I've got over 1000 rounds through it without a malfunction yet.

If I want a soft shooting gun at the range, I'll grab a full size 1911 9mm. Pocket pistols are defensive guns, not range toys. I sold a Sig 238 for the Solo because they're almost identical in size but the Solo has a good bit more firepower. If you're comfortable with 380, then go for the Glock or Sig. I just can't be as confident with 380 as I am with 9mm. My worst fear was being involved in a self defense shooting where the bad guy survived.

We have three Glock 42s (me, son, wife) and all three have performed without issues.
