Glock 42 vs 43 ?

Instead of having some new guys or many non-glock owners wondering about all the differences, it's worth mentioning here:
Glock 42 - 380 ACP
Glock 43 - 9mm

Dimensions are similar enough to have caused many shoppers compare the two.

I have had no rouble with my G42, even with my reloads. I use a Safariland ALS holster. Yes, the holster is a little bulky, but I value the active retention and hard shell design. I would not even consider carrying a striker-fired pistol in anything except a rigid holster.

As far as the G42, if you like Glocks, it is a very good pistol.

Seems like they are sized within fractions of an inch from each other.

I have both, and the G42 is a lot easier for me to carry in a pocket. There also is about a 6-1/2 ounce weight difference when the Glock is loaded with 7 and the Sig (assuming 9mm) is loaded with 10. (BTW, the .380 version of the P365 is closer to the G42 in both size and weight, but the P365-380 is still not as easy to carry in the pocket as the G42.) Of course, each person's pockets and tolerance for weight may vary.

I had a G43. It was a great concealed carry gun. I bought it because the early G42s jammed a lot per various youtube gun reviewers & the G43 is only 1/3 inch longer than the G42 but shoots 9mm, which is much more powerful. However, my ex sold my G43 behind my back. I heard that the new G42s are now reliable. Is this true? My only complaint for the G43 is that whenever I wore skinny jeans with shallow pockets, the top of the gun stuck out so I cannot conceal it, which forces me to use my Ruger LCP instead. So, if the new G42 is reliable, then I'd like to replace my sold G43 with a G42. Is the G42 reliable? Thanks for your answer :)
My 42 was very reliable. But I was running fairly hot reloads. I eventually bailed on it in favor of the 43 because I got tired of dealing with 380 and 9mm.

I reload for 380 ACP and every 380 ACP pistol I have (Colt Mustang, Beretta 84, Kel-Tec P3-AT, S&W/Walther PPK, Kimber Micro, Sig P238, Colt 1908, and Browning 1911-380) except the Glock 42 works just fine with my 95-100 grain FMJ reloads. The Glock 42 continually has failure to eject jams.

My Glock 42 works fine with factory ammunition but my reloads which are loaded to similar velocities as factory equivalent ammunition just do not function reliably in the 42.

So, I'd choose my Glock 43 which works fine with everything I have fed it.

But, it is kind of a moot point, I'm not a fan of Glocks for anything but range toys.

I can pocket carry a Shield/Shield Plus with the small mag in the front pocket of my cargo pants. But, it is heavy.

I am thinking of getting the G42 as a better pocket gun than my LCP. The G42 is about 1/2 a pound lighter than the Shield.

It would have limited use, but still some carry use....

I am not a huge, huge fan of the Glock grip angle. But it is not as big of an issue on the smaller G42

I've never really cared much for single stack low cap glocks. why not just get the 26? Sure the 43 and 43x were a better option over the 42 but when shield arms came out with the 15 round mags, I had to get the 43x. too bad they didn't have the mos when i bought mines. i use to carry a 27 but changed to the 43x. to me the thinner grip feels like there's more felt recoil and snappier than the 26. now i'm considering the 26, also it would complete my collection of the various frames for that caliber besides the 43.

My wife has a Glock 43X...I opted for the 15 round Shield Arms magazines and steel mag catch, so it holds as many rounds as her duty G19M used to, but in a much smaller package. Before retirement my agency recommended using Hornady Critical Duty 135 grain +P in it for carry (it was an approved BUG), and to only use any remaining Speer G2 147 grain duty ammo for practice.

If your not planning to pocket carry I would go with the Glock 43. If you are looking at pocket carry I would go with a .380, not necessarily the Glock 42 only because smaller and more affordable 380's exist for that purpose.

I went with the G43X because it felt better in my hand than the G42 did. Never planned on pocket carrying with it so for that job I bought a Ruger LCP MAX. Shorter in overall length, lighter in weight, and larger mag capacity versus the G42; that's what sold me on the Ruger.

I had both the 42 and 43. Both were just a hair to big to pocket carry for me. I found that I carried the LCP more often. Then along came the P365. I sold both of the Glocks (and I am a Glock Guy) and never looked back. I still carry the LCP the most often, but depending on the pants I am wearing I can carry the P365 in the pocket (Cargo pants, cargo shorts or 511 work pants). Then Ruger came out with the LCP Max and through the game to the wind.
