I've got a glock 23 and a glock 30. There is a part protruding out of the slide, under and to the left of the firing pin. It's a silver color. I think it may be either part of the trigger mechanism housing or the firing pin safety.

Does anyone know what part it actually is?

On the 23, it is perfect straight.
On the 30, it angles about 20 degrees or so toward the right (viewing from behind).

Is this an issue, or are they just different by design? The 23 is a brand new model, The 30 is probably one of the earlier models w/o the light rails.

I also believe you are looking at the ejector. It resembles a tiny sword blade protruding forward and visible through the ejection port with the slide locked back. On my G19 it also angles slightly to the right. If you take the slide off you will find that it is affixed to the gun's frame. As the slide travels rearward during recoil, the cartridge case rim hits this blade and is flipped clear of the action. It works in concert with the extractor, which hooks a claw into the case groove and pulls the case out of the chamber.
