Glock slide finish

ChCx2744 - I understand your frustration. I would probably feel the same way if I didn't have plans to get a custom finish done at some point.

The bevel on the barrel hood was done in 1995 to alleviate the Type 3 malfunctions the NYPD was having with their 19's.

Interesting, thanks for mentioning that.

i have to agree with ChCx, it sux, but it's not a deal killer.

Same here. I don't like the new finish, but it's not a big deal. Aesthetics aside, I don't like how it wears off faster. I still like even my soulless plastic guns to look pretty. I did spot a black gun finish touch up marker at Gander Mountain that I might try.

Had a gen 3 G-27, and now I have just purchased a new Gen 4 G27....finish seems dull but the grip was my biggest complaint..........solved that problem with a rubber grip

I don't know what durability issues people are having with the new grey!? I haven't had a single one with it being in a holster daily....and 1k shots fired through it...

Mine didn't come from just being in the holster, it was the hundreds of presentations I did in practice. Granted, some holster wear is unavoidable, but I have noticed an especially fast disappearance of the black finish on my "dull finished" Glock 19 in the areas the holsters make the most contact when compared to my "gloss finished" G17 and G26. No big deal, just kind of lame.

To me, it's not the durability that's the problem. All guns that aren't safe queens will inevitably pick up some holster/handling wear. It's the fact that that holster wear looks worse on the rough finish.

Understood. IMO my Glock is my EDC nor is Glock a looker so it's wear is expected and I will treat with Ballistol and such when time comes but otherwise not much I can do besides enjoy it :)

I do not think the new finish is a cost cutting measure. How much would GLOCK save by doing that? Pennies. I do not think the new finish will negatively affect durability either. It has been said here that 1st. and 2nd. Gen GLOCKS had what we call now "new" finish, and I still can see these old GLOCKS working flawlesslyand looking good.

It won't effect durability because the tenifer coat is still the same, it just means the dark finish wears more easily. I know my glocks are homely, but I don't want to encourage even more unpleasant appearances.

Even though some may think this new or "old" grey finish is not inferior in quality or price, the reality of it is that it IS. The fact that it wears quicker and shows scratches even before any of the older GLOCKs I own show that this finish is, indeed, of inferior quality. So yeah, in essence, GLOCK did cut the "penny" price of using the more durable, slick finish.

Just so it has been said here, the black you see isn't the Tennifer. The Tennifer is clear under the black, so if the black finish wears down to metal color, the gun still won't rust. I know that isn't really the discussion here, but just wanted to throw that out there.
I was about to post this same thing. People don't seem to realize that Tennifer isn't the finish, it's under the finish.

I hope this thread will catch the eye of a prospective GLOCK buyer before they make their purchase anytime in the near future. Guys, if you're thinking of buying a Gen 3 GLOCK, I hope you get to read this. Make sure you examine it well, because they don't all come with the more durable finish anymore. If at all possible, try to ask for one with the durable finish. From the understanding of others, it is still possible to obtain the more durable, shiny finish on your GLOCKs, even the 4th Gens.

That is, if you prefer the glossy finish. If (for some odd reason) you prefer the dull luster of the new finish, keep on keepin on.
