My main question, is in using standard pressure ammo, subsonic, like 147gr 9mm, 230 gr. .45ACP, 180 gr. .40, will a Glock cycle properly? I realize I can play with recoil spring rates. Are there Glock models to avoid? Are there Glock model that are better choices? Would .40 be a better choice than 9mm since it has more power (to reliably cycle)?

Any classic Glock should work fine. And the 41 to. Easy to put tall sights on them, and KT makes tall sight holsters for Glocks.

The sharp recoil of the .40 does give them more reliability to cycle. And .40 has a good selection of full power defensive ammo that's subsonic. It would be my 1st choice for home defense. 9mm is the quietest but least reliable. And .45 is...well there is still something special about .45. Longer pistols are more reliable, but a hair louder.

A gen4 G22 would be perfect. But I wouldn't hesitate to suppress a louder 34/35 either. I'd recommend getting the pistol that suits you, and just suppress it. Rather than picking the absolute quietest setup with a pistol that you won't use unsuppressed. A G23.4, G22.4, or G41 would be my favorites.

Spend extra on barrel quality. Silencerco or KKM or such. The cheap $150 barrels out there are hit or miss reliability.

My peers use .45 cans because they are OK for everything. Some of those are .300, 5.56 rated as well and cheap to convert over. Now a 9mm/5.56/.300 rated can will be quieter than a do it all can. (smaller opening)

As long as you're using a booster (Neilson device), most short recoil guns should run fine. I suppose some locked breech .380s could have trouble, never tried it. The only one of my .380s I threaded is a CZ-83, which is blowback. I do use the booster on blowback guns anyway, though, as the weight of a suppressor can try to pull the barrel out the front under recoil.
