Go to gun

Good post. When it comes down to it, I'm comfortable trusting my life to any of my guns. I suppose thats a good place to be in. I don't have enough money to buy "toys" yet, just "tools" so far.

Given that, the situation dictates the tool.

Any "serious" gun I buy from here on out is merely filling in the niche gaps.

... the 65 in .357m (loaded with .38 spl +p).

65 in .357m.....65in.....OMGGGGGGGGGGG lololol
i bet you're pretty accurate with that.....set up on a bipod?
Right. Except I use a tripod. Barrel is too heavy for a bipod.

The typo appears to have been made by the sarcastic critic.

My original: "the 65 in .357m".

Sarcastic critic: "65in", implying 65 inches.

Translation for newbies: Smith Wesson Model 65 chambered in .357 magnum".
Quite common to delete the word "chambered".

Example: Marlin 336 in .30/30.
No, the rifle does not have a 336" barrel.
I'll keep you posted when I find one. ;)

Wow. I must really be bored to respond to this. :scrutiny:

65 In .357m

For those of you not familiar with the "65" allow me:

This is a "65, in .357 mag"

(Smith & Wesson Model 65, in .357 mag)

And so is this:

(Taurus Model 65, in .357 mag.)

Took me under a minute to find them.

And I didn't even giggle during the Google.

(Nem's just happens to be the S&W -- and I see he beat me to it while I was digging up pix.)

I've thought about this just a little. I made up a bag that is small enough to carry, yet big enough to carry me through. It holds 5 ea. 33 round magazines and 3 ea. 17 round magazines, along with the Glock 17, in a holster. The gun has one magazine, and the holster has another. That's 250 rounds, ready to go, with the gun that can reliably deliver them.
It doesn't matter much whether I have the 17 or 19 with me, since the 19 accepts all of those mags as well. I don't care who you are, or what you have, or how well you can shoot. If you know enough to be a threat to me, we're most likely on the same side. If you're not on my side, I'm not wasting very much ammo on you. But then what? If it gets that bad, I probably don't want to be here anyway.

Sarcastic critic....I thought I would throw in a little laugh. I see that some people left their funny bone at the door. I wanted to add the image from the first Batman movie with the Joker (Jack Nicholson) pulling out that ridiculously long revolver from this pants.

I'm not familiar with the model 65. Actually, I'm not that familiar with revolvers models. So I guess I am a newb to revolvers.

BTW...my go to gun would be my HK USP 45.

OK. Explanation accepted. It just felt a little derisive, that's all.
We just never know around here with new members.
(Welcome to the mad house.)

Besides, I added some smilies to indicate my funny bone is fully functional. :)

The op and I are in the same "category" I think. I have 6 handguns, 3 shotguns, and 8 rifles. About 3 of these are old milsurp (K-98 Mosin x 2), 10-22 a few ebr's (Colt/PWA AR and Ak), Savage model 10 in .223 and a A-bolt .270 hunting rife. I only have one revolver a 605 (.357) and a P3AT for CC. A XD-45, CD 1911, and Brigadier 96 for target/home defense. And the universally required 22-45. An older bolt action .410 my grandfather gave me, an NEF break action 20ga (my first gun) and a 20ga 870 ESM. And plenty of ammo for them all. Mostly factory but I have right many reloading componets except shotgun shell.

I have all of my "needs" covered (except maybe a 9mm gun as I have plenty of 9 ammo) but there are still many on my want list, but $ is hard to hold on to right now. :(

I don't have a lot of guns. But we have lots of private land. I either keep a 30-30 Marlin or Mossberg 20ga in the backseat of the Dakota when I'm driving back and forth about the property working. I keep the shotty back there most often because of the load variety. I just throw a couple loads of birdshot and a pumpkin ball or two in the dash and keep buckshot up the tube. Just make sure to take it all out when I go out on the town. :D

Alas, today's severe global economic downturn has forced me to relinquish all of my firearms except for a replica 1863 .58 cal. Zouave Muzzleloading Musket.

Sometimes, you just want to squeeze every bit of velocity out of a .357 but don't want a shoulder stock in the way. :D

Interesting, possum... you chose an Always (.38), Often (9mm), and Just in Case (12 ga) to take with you. I suppose mine would be a little Beretta .22 or Savage .32, the 1911, and the AR or 20 ga.

Probably the SP-101 is the most "go to" I have. Just because it's such a "perfect" little gun for my uses.
Say what you will, but there is a lot to be said for the gun you are actually likely to have with you when you need it.

For now, my "go to gun(s)" would be my XD-45 ACP, followed by the 12 ga. shotgun. Later on, I may add a revolver to the mix. If I could choose just one, Id probably opt for the 12 gauge.

I tend to keep it simple. My go to guns would be the s&w bodyguard I carry every day, The enfield carbine I deer hunt with every year, and the h&r single 12 ga that has been riding in my vehicle for the last 7 years. that should be good enough to get me by until I can get back to the "sexier/cooler" stuff. lol

I hardly go anywhere without my Taurus Model 85 in my pocket, but if I go somewhere I plan to stay for a day or two, an old 1970 Remington 870 is probably coming with me.

well i have revolvers, (love the 357) auto .45 witness and 7mm mag for top of the rifle cat, wife has the shotgun covered, an old bolt action wall piece, in 12 ga... never shot it, but love the 7mm mag.

You know the ONE firearm I feel the most confident and flexible with for a variety of uses? Remington 870 12 ga. with a 3 inch chamber, 21 inch deer barrel with rifle sights and a rifled tube choke. (At close range the patterns are a tad bigger but it works just fine.)

Let's face it a 'go to' gun you aren't talking about duck hunting or target shooting, right? You want something that feels like a part of you and can count on with ZERO hesitation.

As for handguns, I've had great success with my BHP clone, bone stock Colt 1911's and revolvers. I also would not hesitate to grab a single action Ruger Vaquero. Simple is sometimes better.

My two go to guns would be a Bobtail S&W 1911Sc commander and my GP75 they are both absolutely reliable and I shoot them pretty good.

Here is a pic of them together.

My go to gun would be a 22 rifle of some kind or a shot gun. The law is so bad that if I grabbed a handgun I would be breaking more laws then what ever the badguys are doing . I know of guys who compalin about bears around the house at night and say they won't shoot at them because of our night time shooting laws. Go figure that one.

I guess there's a logic in there somewhere about using what you're comfortable with. In the end, I had a good selection of firearms to choose from, and took the 3 that I've owned for quite sometime and have put countless rounds through.
There is a lot of wisdom in that.
