Already a lifetime member of NRA. Thinking about upping that the next level or sending in a contribution toward current efforts. But hearing more about GOA and wondering about contributing there instead. Last thread on this is over 5 years old.

Thoughts?? NRA or GOA??

I've contributed to several 2A organizations over the years. But we can easily tell which organization is actually the most effective in supporting the 2A. That is the organization being attacked 24/7 daily, hourly, by major media, Hollywood, professional sports and music industry celebrities. That is of course, the NRA.

Both. I haven't donated to GOA so they are on my todo list for a life membership this month. I've donated lots to NRA.

I'm a life member or higher of all of them which offered it, think SAF didn't at the time. That said the NRA is the 800lb gorilla which the left hates, for that reason alone I would go with them. However, splitting your donation if you also like GOA, SAF, or a local one isn't a bad idea either.

In the words of Zoidberg of Futurama, "Why not both?" I am a life member of the NRA and an annual member of both the GOA and JPFO (even though I'm not Jewish). I believe that it comes down to numbers and political influence when fighting for our rights. What I mean by that is by spreading my membership to multiple organizations, the politicians don't know that a single person is a member of "X million" members of the NRA and "Y million" members of the GOA, etc. They just see the overall numbers of members in that organization and isn't too fast to vote against their interests. The more members an organization has, the better and when it's several gun rights organizations speaking for my interests, well, the more the better, right?

I started NRA gift memberships for family members this time around. Also there are usually a few statewide 2A organizations as well and your money will help at that level too. The ones I donate a bit to are in my sig line.;)

I vote both. I had actually let my GOA membership lapse several years ago, but I re-joined last week. I also joined my state gun rights organization last week.

The GOA doesn’t get quite the headlines (and hate) that the NRA gets, but often you’ll hear a politician quietly give credit to the GOA for gun related legislation or overturned laws so I know they’re effective.

I have gone through Life, Endowment, Patron and Benefactor. Also ISRA.

If you've the means, both, of course. I'm a life member of the NRA, and used to be a member of GOA as well, but recent changes in my retirement have caused me to let the GOA membership lapse, among other things. Soon as I'm sure what is coming in over the next few months, I will decide if I rejoin GOA.

Both.....but if you must choose only one.....GOA is the one.
They look out for the gun owner.....the NRA is all about the gun manufacturers and the gun industry.
Sometimes what is best for the gun industry and the gun manufacturers is not always what is best for
us gun owners. Think about it.....

NRA is and always has been for gun owners. GOA is for GOA, follow the money.

Wrong sir. Do the research. It's the NRA that has the multi million dollar building not GOA.
And it's Wayne Lapierre who gets a salary of $5 million per year. And Chris Cox gets a salary of $1.5 million per year. Not any GOA people.
Do the research!

Something needs to change in the NRA and I don't think anything will change within them. Too many corporations and gun industries contribute to the NRA, it's more or less a gun industrial-lobby complex. GOA I think is funded through members only and competition benefits the customer so for me GOA.

I'll add to the pitch for the state organizations. They put more effort into fighting local horror shows or promoting positive change. That's something the nationals aren't really successful at doing. In fact, some of the national ones mentioned go into 'purity' mode and have tried to mess up local pro gun initiatives such as CCW. Argument being we don't need that as we have the 2nd Amend. Yeah, right - it doesn't give you carry abilities. State laws do.

Fully agree. The future of gun control legislation is at the state and local level, not nationally. Look at Colorado and Virginia... both big, rural states that have passed gun control legislation thanks mostly to big urban populations. As time passes, states like Flordia, Georgia, Arizona, the Carolina's... there's going to be a strong anti gun push from Northeast or West coast types moving in to escape the tax states they helped create and the older generations that are pro-2A will die off.

Those states, and others, need to get organized locally with 2nd amendment groups because the fight in the future is going to make the current fight look like a schoolyard scuffle.
