Going for super-reliable AR upper

Brian, yours is a 14.5"?

I'll definitely try the PMags out when I get a chance. Right now, I've got a stack of C-Products stainless.

I went with the 16" and removable Phantom flash hider. I like to be able to pull the flash hider if needed. I also like the extra 100fps or so from the extra barrel length.

Funny you should mention it, I used the Cproducts SS mags for the class and for a lot of rifle matches, had 0 problems with them too. I switched to Pmags after they had been out for 6 months or so. I don't feel like I need to baby them nearly as much as metal mags. BSW

I'm almost swayed by the 16". It's what I have on the way. It's in the white, so I'm sending it out to ADCO for parking and pinning of the gas block anyway. My plan was to have it cut down, but I'm wavering now. I can't see messing with the FH, but I might for the barrel nut or whatever if I change hand guards, etc in the future.

I really strongly recommend a 16" unless you go NFA. A permanently-attached muzzle device really locks out future changes to the upper, specifically the gas block and rail system. A 16" MLGS with a mid-length or rifle-length float tube is a nice setup.

I hear you. Probably the smart move is to at least start at 16". I can always cut it down later if I feel the need.

I do like the looks of the 14.5" more, but I'm not building this one to be pretty.

I swear.

I hate to steal your thread too much, but what can I do to a del-ton 20" ar15 to make it more reliable. It's been 100% so far (few hundred rounds), but I want to do whatever I can that will minimize future problems.
