Going on Vacation to Good Ole California, Need Some Advice!

Although the arena for the Padres game wouldn't let me bring in a half drunk bottle of water, which I don't understand why they let unopened bottles in.

Probably the park is a licensed on-sale premises - a bar - and they have a concern with bringing alcohol into the park.

They most likely worry about

• making money by selling you alcohol
• losing money by not selling you alcohol
• liability if they can't cut you off and you get drunk
• losing money ...
• your safety if you get drunk and maybe fall
• their liability if you get drunk and fall
• did I mention money?

Theoretically an unopened bottle will be alcohol free. As I work in a concert venue doing 'security', I'm well aware of how close theory and practice approach one another.

I know that the airlines also does something similar to what the stadium did for liquids as carry on baggage. When I got on they wouldn't let any water bottles on and when you went through security you had to put any gels you had in a plastic bag so they could see it.

Come on people! I have traveled in most of the states in our fair land and dozens of countries around the world. While I believe absolutely that we have a right to defend ourselves, I also believe that when you visit someplace as a tourist or on business you need to use enough common sense that you learn the places to avoid and that, regardless of your weapon system of choice, you are aware enough of the situation to defend yourself and your family without resorting to deadly force. Let's get real, OK? Outside the US, most places in the world do not allow you the freedom to defend yourself even to the level California does. If you're that scared, you'll carry anyway. If you get caught, you pay the price. Do what you have to do, but don't blame an entire state for the stupidity of its political class.

I survived in Californiate for 6 months. As I was leaving the state, I stopped, bent on knee and vowed before God to never return there so long as I live. As I have stated in other posts, I refuse to spend my money in anti states. As I see it, even expert martial arts are at risk there. What strategy can suplant a firearm? One...stay in your home state. Pepper spray is a false sense of security. JMHO.
