Going to do my part for national ammo week. A question on 22 ammo though.

What have you found to be a good all around 22 cartrige to keep around?

Remington golden bullets are very accurate in my marlin 39A, but only so-so in my 10-22.

Federal golden eagle don't cycle the 10-22 reliably.

CCI stinger are good in everything I own, but they're expensive, and a little rough on the guns for continuous use.

Jury's still out on winchester wildcats.

Not much experience with all the CCI variants in plastic cases.

Presently I've got a big mish-mash of stuff. I'm looking to buy some bulk 22 and be done with it. But I'm wanting input on what to buy.

What do you say guys?

I've used most of the brands you mentioned at one time or another over the last 34 years of shooting. All .22LR have been known to have a FTF problem from time to time in the normal course of events, and i've had my share of them, but i've never had one with a winchester wildcat, IIRC.
Lately the remington 'bulk pack' of 550 seems to be giving me more than my share of grief, and yet the remington 'thunderbolt' packaged 50/box 500/10 box brick have been very reliable for me. Go figure.
YMMV, naturally, but if you're like most guys that keep several hundred or several thousand on hand, you're likely to have a few failures per thousand with almost any of big domestic manufacturers anyway.

Well, by buddy and I spent the last several months trying every different .22 load we could get our hands on, and trying them in 5 different .22 rifles. The winners (from best to worst, but all of these were VERY good):

Wolf Match Target
Winchester T-22
Federal "Classic" Gold Label

Note that all of these (as well as most of the "better" loads we tried) are "standard velocity", we never got really good accuracy with any of the "high-velocity" loads, although some weren't too bad.

I've always had pretty good luck with the CCI Mini-mags. Not the cheapest, but have always gotten pretty good results from them.

Weird, just ran 200 rounds of Remington "Golden Bullet" the 550 rounder box stuff through a Trailside (and they have been called finicky), had 3 that didn't go boom out of 200... otherwise no problems

I have a mish-mash of .22 rifles and pistols, and I've had the most consistency (accuracy and sure-fire bangs) with CCI Mini-Mags.

Sure, I've found more accurate (more expensive) loads, but sometimes certain guns don't hit the primer hard enough, or the priming compound is spotty around the rim. The latter was mostly noted in Aguila with the famed Eley priming compound. :uhoh: :scrutiny:

The two I've had the best overall results with, in rifles and pistols, is Federal Lightning(or Champion) and Eley Sport. And I can get the Federal at Academy for about $8/brick.

the two companies that make the most variants, are also the best for accuracy, consistency, etc. cci and Aguila, also called golden eagle under their american name.

I'm currently going through a bulk pack of Rem. Golden Bullets and haven't had problems yet (knock on wood).

Another vote for the CCI mini-mags. I feed them to the 22/45, they very rarely FTF compared to other brands I've tried.

see, the beauty of the Aguila rounds is that they are all eley components in every way, made with eley machinery and specs, just below us in mexico. Golden eagles are made, to a smaller degree, here in America.

In 2001, I got lucky. I stopped at a yard sale, and bought a Marlin 60 and 10 bricks of Blaser for $100. I've fired about 3/4 of the ammo now, and have had about 6-7 FTF, and 3-4 clicks instead of bangs (duds). Its dirty ammo, but that Marlin seems to like it.
