Taking the family to Disney World this weekend, and plan on carrying outside of the park visit itself. We're driving from Alabama, through GA. I'm good with reciprocity permit wise, and I believe from reading the US handgun law site neither state we're traveling through require notification should I get stopped (wife hates guns and will not be pleased if she finds out I'm carrying).

I generally leave my weapon in between the drivers seat and console. In Alabama this is legal. Can anyone advise on GA or FL?

I'm also aware of Disney and won't be carrying there.

Thank you in advance!

As far as I know the position between the console and seat is fine as long as it meats the definition of "concealed" in FL and GA. A driver I know in FL simply takes a ball cover and throws it over the handgun grip to hide it from window views.

I have a map pocket in the doors of my vehicles and since I pocket carry, I place it there - otherwise I would not be able to remove it from my pocket in the event of a road rage incident - it is holstered or in a fanny pack; I do not draw attention to myself, etc.

Good move on not carrying at Disney - their rules and policies are more inline with Bloomberg or Cook County than the rest of the country

In Florida it's either on your person ( with permit) or in a glove box/console in a holster, or container.

I don't think Disney World allows concealed carry on their property. Not sure though, and things may have changed since I was last there.

I've seen this subject come up before and someone who was posting stated that WDW has no written policy against carrying guns or knives but that gate security does inconsistenly refuse entry to people who are carrying.

I've carried into Disney. Its against thier rules and they reserve the right to remove me from the park if they somehow find out (J-Frame IWB its highly unlikely) but thats a risk I MUST take since they do not offer armed security to follow you around at one of the most juicy terrorist targets.

Ill briefly carry my wifes PPS through the gates as they probe the purses and bags and then Ill take her purse into the bathroom and put her PPS back in its internal pocket.

Remember, Its against DISNEY RULES to carry in the park, not the LAW. ;)

Won't be carrying inside Disney. We're going on an employee pass and it would be unfavorable for her if my weapon became an issue. It's a lot like an airline buddy pass. The passenger gets in hot water, the employee giving out the pass gets in hot water.

Just to be clear, my pistol must be holstered in the glove box or console? This isn't my preferred way to have it in the car, but I abide by the laws.

FL law dictates out of plain sight and securely encased. So in console, glovebox, snapped holster in door panel, cardboard box with lid shut are all fine. FL is pro gun.

If its out of sight and you can't operate the controls through the item in which the gun is encased then you are good to go. So a paperbag wouldnt work.

Throw it in your glovebox, lock it, and go enjoy the day.

For the sake of any non-permitholders driving through Florida, your firearm, if concealed within a covered center console or in the glovebox, need not be in a snapped holster. Heck, it can be on the passenger seat in a closed pizza box if you wish..

I am greatly relieved that this wasn't a "Which caliber...?" thread.

Funny you mention that. I actually hated to post this thread because the info is readily available on the net. I just wanted to make sure I had up to date / practical info before we left. Failure on my part for not searching this site before posting it as well.

I certainly appreciate the replies however!

Those Mickey costumes are pretty thick, you'd need good penetration. I suggest 357SIG. for when Mickey goes rogue LOL :D This mouse is gonna need more than a varmint rifle.

On body carry within the park wasn't an issue with us because we didn't. Pistols were left in the rooms rather than in the rear of the van.

Getting to and from Orlando was different.

For things related to carry within private, state, or federal recreational areas in Florida, you might want to have a chat with some of the folks at the Florida Concealed Carry Forum.

No dis to THR, but Fla C.C. Forum is more likely to be current than vacation memories from a few years ago.

Be prepared for lots of standing in place and waiting in line.

In Florida "no carry" signs have the same legal force as "No Colored Folks", "Whites only", "No Jews" or the like.

However, outside of certain activities [ hunting, fishing ] there is no open carry. Permit or no permit. But since you have a permit from a state with Reciprocity, there is no limitation to vehicle carry, except it can not be in plain view.

But they can ask you to leave - with no refund - at almost $100 per person per day, that can be expensive

As to the "terrorist rich target", how many attacks have there been? Zero - you re under as much, or more, surveillance than folks in London - just because YOU don't see them doesn't mean they aren't there

If one is licensed that gun does NOT have to be securely encased. It does have to be concealed. One could just toss it under the drivers seat with no holster and be legal, one could also just lay the piece on the unoccupied passenger seat less any holster or container and cover it with a ball cap or what have you and be legal. The securely encased issue applies to those that are NOT licensed. If you hold a license you can have the thing anywhere in your vehicle in any condition lawfully as long as it is concealed.

Concealed means concealed. I go there regularly, never seen a metal detector. At worse you may have to go back to your car or hotel and drop it off.

However, I guess I just have a higher standard of personal responsibility in ensuring the safety of my loved ones and myself.

I bet people thought that at the WTC until the first bombing. London has had it's share of Terrorist attacks too.
