talking with a coworker about starting to work on my 1911.

He mentioned that he has a gold cup barrel from one of his 1911s that he has since converted to a commander type (and consequently has no need for anymore). He offered to sell it to me for $45, plus a few more for the matching bushing if he still has it.

Good deal? He's very trustworthy, and says the barrel is in fine shape, and that it was very accurate in his parts gun it came out of.

Will I have any problems putting it in my M1911-A1 SA milspec (assuming I get the matching bushing)?

Thanks for the input, as always.

Gold Cup barrels have a narrow chamber hood. It may fit, but there will be a huge gap when looking down through the ejection port.

I think "dsk" just gave you a good one. Gold Cup barrel hoods are narrower then those in a regular Government Model. Sure you can put it in your gun, but it won't fit properly. Is it safe? Probably, but you may get sub-par accuracy.

sorry, DSK, wasn't tryingto ignore your advice.

That's unfortunate. I guess one needs a different slide in order for the barrel to fit properly?
