I just bought a 12 inch (12 watt) Golden Rod dehumidifier for my 6 rifle gun cabinet. It a nice maple cabinet with a glass front door. I was surprised how hot the golden Rod gets to the touch. While I can touch it, I certainly wouldn't leave my finger in contact with it more than a moment.
So, is this "heater" safe to use in a wood cabinet?

Yes.

I have never heard of a 'Golden Rod burnt my house down' law suit.

They are commonly, and normally used in gun safes with much easier to ignite foam & cloth liners.

Just mount it as directed so it isn't in direct contact with the cabinet and it should be fine.

Is it hotter than boiling water? Does a pot accidentally placed directly on your kitchen table make you afraid of burning your house down?

The golden rod reaches approximately 150 degrees. Do not worry about it.

It will be fine. I have one in a large safe, and I keep mine full of ammo as well. (Please no flames for that).

Thanks guys. Just wanted a bit of reassurance.
Just screwed down the mounting brackets a couple minutes ago. ;-).

If you don't have a mold or mildew problem in your house, you won't have a problem in the cabinet, and the Golden Rod isn't needed at all

I would have to agree. For many years I have kept all of my guns and guitars in a spare bedroom with a small dehumidifier and kept the humidity around 45% and never had any problems. Buy a humidity gauge. The problem with a wooden cabinet is that on a humid day the wood will absorb moisture from the air and release it slowly - not good for firearms inside it. Just inspect your guns frequently and don't forget about them.
