Dang!

You just can't please some people. Do you think STI would even mention a joint venture if they thought the frames and slides were inferior quality? Do you really need to worry about it when STI and Armscor both have exceptional customer service and warranty? Even if you did have a problem, I can't see STI telling you to stick it because "it's just a RIA frame, what did you expect?"

I will readily admit that having an RIA and a Springer side by side does show more fit and finish goodness on the SA. But the RIA is exactly what I got it for, a no frills shooter. Actually, mine is a CD, but made by the same company.

As for availability of the Trojan, they are on the market right now. I've seen ads for them for a while now. Looks to have the fit and finish one expects from STI, to boot. I'm gonna surf www.1911forum.org under the STI folder and see what I see.

I have a full size RIA 1911 I did some ramp work to feed JHP but it is flawless. 3000+ rounds and all I have replaced was the recoil spring. Can you post some picks of the feed issues and a pick of the ramp?

I will also add that even though I have never had to return a gun to IVAN He has always jumped in when anyone on the other board has had a problem and follows through to make sure they are taken care of.

1911 Guy, the Trojan is an all STI product. The Spartan is the STI/Armscor partnership gun.

Ivan,

You may have just sold another gun. With that kind of warranty and service, I think I'll go look at one and if I like the feel, buy it. Welcome to THR.

Do you have dealers in the Tulsa OK area?

OOPS!

My mistake. You're right, I was confusing the Trojan and Spartan models. Having said that, I can't recall seeing advertisements for the Spartan or seeing any in shops yet.

My RIA 1911 is currently having return-to-battery issues.

Probably due to the fact that since its last cleaning, it's had around 500 rounds of Wolf and 200 or so rounds of South African through it. :D

I figure that a half-bottle of Hoppe's and a toothbrush will fix it up just fine.

MC GUnner,
I have to agree with Blood Donor on this one.

I have a S&W SW1911 that digests everything that I feed it. I did pay over $600 for it but that is still less expensive than the Sigs in my area. I've been thrilled with the S&W since I bought it. It feeds whatever I feed it without a problem and groups the Winchester white box practice ammunition and protection ammunition very well.

Jim

Ivan is a great help on RIA and makes things right when problems come up.
Thats hard to beat and one reason I own a RIA 1911 in 38 super.
Every manufacturer out there has had a problem at one time or another. I had a almighty Sig that went back 3 times and was happy to get rid of the thing and I can name other top brands that have problems as well so if service is there keep in mind they all have problems from time to time. The question is do they make it right ? Ivan will !!!!!

I ordered some Spartans on the groups buy from some THR members, and I ordered another half dozen for store stock. They are supposed to be shipping in late November or December.

So nope, I haven't seen one in person yet either.

As i've stated several times, it was cheaper for me to fix the gun myself than to pay for shipping and insurance. Or have to worry about dealing with the insurance carrier after it disappeared out of the back of that old big brown truck.

Okay, you keep wailing about shipping/insurance.

If you have your dealer (with an FFL) send it USPS, it will cost $10-12 plus insurance, under $20 total.

Tell me you haven't spent several times that already?

Tell me that you won't spend $20 to let me manufacturer look at it, fix it right or replace it?

You will let a dealer and a smith monkey with it when they obviously cannot fix it, but not the manufacturer?

Wow. Good luck.

One Wolff recoil spring=$7.95
One Wolff magazine spring=$7.49

How much does that add up to? Why should i waite several weeks to get my gun back from the manufacturer, risk it disappering out of the back of some truck, when i could fix it myself in about five minutes and still be out less than it would cost to ship it back to the manufacturer?

The dealer i bought the gun from pays his 'smith to repair any new guns he sells. That's just his policy. If it's something really severe then he'll send it back. Did you bother to read the part of my post where i stated the recoil spring and mag spring fixed the problems? Problems i was well aware of before i bought the gun. If you actually read all my posts you would know i was well aware of the fact that most 1911's won't feed hp's without being throated. The 'smith did not "monkey" with the gun. He throated it so it would feed hp's. He's been in business for years, has an exellent reputition, has done action jobs on three different guns for me, all three of which have been 100% reliable, and i trust him completly.

What i was pissed about was that the gun broke with less than 200 rounds through it. No gun, i don't give a crap if it's a S&W, Ruger, Colt....or whatever should break in less than 200 rounds. And belive me, if i had laid out the bucks for a Kimber,'Smith or whatever, i would have handeled it the exact same way.
