Gonna sell some of my collection to help get another car.

Sure. I got into a financial bind with 4 kids in college. Sold everything but my Glock 17 and my Mosin Nagant. Have since sold the Mosin but have replenished. Like a total idiot, I sold my AR-15 back there during the last big scare that really looked to me like it was gonna be the "big one". Sold it to a guy that couldn't get his money out of the bank fast enough and I bought two guns with the proceeds. Now I am looking again for an AR-15 and have all but settled on what I want.

So guns come and go.

That's the way I see it. One gun that I might sell is one with specific ammo. I really like the gun, but don't really need it. Anytime I take it out would be "an expensive day that the range". Of course, if there is another "incident" [hopefully that won't happen], and prices skyrocket again, I could get more for it. All that to say, . . . it may not be the best time to sell now, anyway.

I'm on the fence at the moment. Some of them will be sold. "When" is another topic.

I can see selling or liquidating a collection as you grow older. I can't really see selling for something like a car. Boat maybe? :D In general, I have resisted selling any portion of my core collection. The things I have sold have almost always been something that I grew not to care much about over time or the value was such that I would prefer putting those funds into something I really want as part of a collection (vs accumulation).

My 22 rifles are an accumulation. My Colts are part of a collection. My Smiths are somewhere in between an accumulation and collection.

Back when I was young and single and thought that any gun was replaceable, I sold a few that I certainly wish that I had back.

4" blue Python, 6" nickel python, 8 3/8" model 29. If I still had them they would be worth about 4 times what I sold them for back then. But it's just another example of the old saying "too soon old, too late smart". :)

Well, just about every gun that I have sold, I later regretted it. Though your specific shooting interests can change through the years, I've found that they can do a full circle and then you usually pay more to replace the equivalent of something you had before. I've also found that prices have risen and guns have kept up with inflation pretty well (compared to other things). I'm just glad I bought some of my guns years ago, as their prices are too high nowadays.

So, quite a few years ago, I decided to shop long and smart, & to keep what I buy. I haven't had to get rid of anything out of financial necessity. Of course, if that need did arise, a guy can get along very well with just a few items. A 12 gauge shotgun, 30-06 bolt rifle, 22LR rifle, a defensive handgun in your chosen chambering, and a defensive carbine (even a good lever gun) would likely do anything needed to be done.

I had to sell some off back in 2011 to help pay for our wedding. The wife and I met later in our lives (34) and so we had to pay for our wedding ourselves AND buy a house. Something I had not planned on ever having to do again. We did what we had to to make it work and now I have tens times as much work as I did when I sold my guns so hopefully, never again.

I've sold 8 Guns in the last few months raised 11k towards struck. A few more to go. Really don't want to finance it I sold stuff I had neve shot and stuff I knew I could sell for 3-4x what I was in it for. Definitely no gifts or family guns.

I still have a safe bursting at the seams with Long guns and handguns
