For $500, I don't think you can beat a Savage. If that's what I had to work with, that's what I'd buy.

Savage quality is so...variable....

I find the machining, fit and finish on the Vanguard to be vastly superior.

The Vanguard S2 is every bit as accurate as any savage and twice the quality.
