Greetings,
The UTRPC continues to flourish, having pulled in over 200 visitors in five weeks of operation. Membership is up to 60, and enough dedicated shooters to start fielding teams (look out TCU and A&M!).
Downside: the gear is getting heavy use, so we're separating the tough from the toys. The Ruger MkIIs and S&W 22a run like champs with minimal cleaning, as does the Norinco Olympia. Buckmark keeps crashing even w/ new extractor and our experienced gunsmiths repeated efforts. S&W 63 gets nasty forcing cone fouling and spits if not cleaned semi-often, and extraction gets really sticky if we leave the chambers too long. Ruger Single Six is unstoppable.
I digress, our eyes and ears are in need of replacement. The $5 hardware store muffs are pretty uncomfy, and often break on the headband. The plastic eyeglasses are getting scratchy, and fog easily.
For ears: I've got a $15 set of Peltors, the OD green "Brit Mil Issue" ones. They look just like the black "Presidential" ones, and are very comfy and sturdy. Would these be a good bet to re-outfit? Any good place to buy a dozen or score and get a discount?
Ditto eyes: I don't know what a decent but affordable brand would be, and one where we can buy 12-20 pair.
We've got some funds to play with, and minimal expenses. We can't be prodigal, but are willing to put a little out to move up from rock-bottom safety gear.
Oh, and if someone knows a good place to buy the military flange earplugs, I want to get out regulars to stop using up our yellow foamies four times a week, and bring their own dang plugs to the range.
Thanks for any info. Will post pics of range crowd soon, but we've been run ragged just keeping the line up and safe. I'll delegate pic taking to a regular on our next shift, post some pics for those that claim "kids these days aren't interested in shooting."
