Good all around cartridge?
Same as it was 60 years ago, 30-06, 7mm or 270.
I've modernized my selection by narrowing it to .308 and 7mm-308.
I know 7-'08 is okay for Moose or Elk but I just feel more secure with the .308. .308 is just a short case '06 and 7-08 duplicates the old reliable 7mm Mauser in a .308 case.
Quite adequate, remember Karamojo Bell killed hundreds of Elephants with a 7mm Mauser.
Nothing (including expensive 'magic bullets') can make up for proper placement and sufficient penetration.
All JMHO, but I"m pretty firm about it!
