I have an AR lower and will start building soon. It will probably be a dedicated 22LR but I've already determined that I will get at least two more lowers. At least one will be in .223/5.56 format. While I am not building the .223/5.56 format just yet, I would like to start shopping for mags. The hot mags seems to be pmags. I like the ones with the window and the fact that my Glock has a plastic coat over the mags. Since I use it in comp shooting, I don't think twice when I drop the mag and it hits the concrete. In looking at some older threads like this one: http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=540480&highlight=ar+15+metal+vs+plastic+mags my question is what would you consider a good mix of mags? Please include brands, types, capacity, purpose and quantity.

Thanks,

MC

Pmags $14, lancer AWF mags $16, brownells GI mags $10. Everything else is a wanna-be (i am wearing my flame suit).

Generally, I just buy GI and P-Mags. New or used, in decent condition.

Change out the springs and followers on the questionable units.

Mag Maintenance is actually the most under-rated PM there is: take e m apart and clean em out, lightly oil the spring coil, reassemble. Most folks never do this.

Mags are a wear item. They don't last forever.

I like P-Mags, and I like aluminum "GI" Mags, like these I bought the last time. :)

pmags and ok industries gi mags here. i wouldn't hesitate to buy the brownells mags though.

I have been using P-Mags, and bought some D&H GI mags a month ago.

I will be sticking with P-Mags from now own.

I also bought a mess of the D&H FDE mags along with my upper from PSA, and found that the teflon melts when they are left in a car trunk on a hot day and sticks the mags together in my pouches. Not acceptable. I sold them at a loss for $7 a piece at a gun show and have since replaced them with P-mags. I didn't do too bad since I found a bunch of brand new but unwrapped P-mags with windows for $10 a piece at the last gun show. They are a mix of different colors but that is kind of cool.

WHen I was out of mags, I borrowed some of my buddy's H&K steel mags. They are the bomb.com, but are cost prohibitive for me. Somehow a bunch of them followed him home from Afghanistan, the lucky SOB.

I only use GI mags. I have a source that sells very good condition used GI mags for $6.50. They have never failed me. I usually download them to 28 rounds, otherwise gtg.

I have a 40 round C Products metal mag for those 3 gun stages where i need more than 28 rounds. The C Products seem to be good stuff from my limited exposure to them. At $12, i think this 40 rounder is a deal.

I had some of the older pmags, but they wouldn't drop free from my S&W or Sabre AR's. I understand that the newer generation pmags do not have this issue. That said, i would have not hesitate to buy the newer gen pmags at the right price. Magpul stuff is top notch.

I have been told and read that the Brownells metal GI mags are good mags.

A couple of friends have used the Troy plastic battle mags. So far so good for them, but i will wait until i hear more reviews before i buy any.

Pmags are really the most reliable mags on the market i think & the dust covers seal the deal although the newer pmags have the option to snap the dust cover on the bottom to keep up with them better I guess but it adds some unwanted length to the mag. I still have a bunch of steel mags though with anti tilt Magpul followers that I use still & have never failed me yet. I sell Pmags & Teflon mags of course with the magpul followers & I sell a good amount of both. The Pmags with the window are my best sellers & for good reason for they are very reliable. I sell ten pack w/windows for 160$ in all colors I link the FDE color but have all & many bulk buys on all types of mags http://shop.fostertacticalgear.com/10-PK-MAGPUL-PMAGS-30rd-W-Window-Dark-Earth-16000-MGMPI210FDE.htm
