Good bases and rings for Win. Model 70

Long time lurker, first time poster.....

I have a 1953 Winchester Model 70 in .308. It belonged to my Dad's uncle, I guess you could say my great-uncle, and Dad has kept it for the last 11 years. It is in excellent shape, but Dad just doesn't shoot it any more. He's let me have it and I want to replace the old Weaver bases and rings and put on a Leupold VX-III 2.5 x 8 scope that I have on another gun.

What would be a good set of bases and rings?

talley makes an excellent set for what you want.

I put Leupold Bases and Rings on my 1949 Model 70.

I used Warne Maxima bases and HRT rings, both available from Brownells. These are heavy, as they are steel, but they are "bomb-proof".
